Edna C. Finley

A Funeral Service for Edna Finley of Roseau, MN will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Northwood Church in Grygla, MN. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 17, 2021 from 5-7 PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at Northwood Cemetery in Grygla, MN.

Edna C. Finley was born May 13, 1926 to Emil and Alice Ostlund in Marshall County. She attended country school on the Randine Ridge before continuing her education in Thief River Falls and at the Agriculture school in Crookston, MN.

Edna married Charles “Emmett’ Finley in Roseau, MN in 1943. They moved to their farm 12 miles North of Grygla, MN where she was a house wife and raised their 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls. She then worked as a cook in Nelson’s Café for 25 years and was loved by all who worked with her. She also worked for a time at the hospital in Roseau doing the laundry. Edna took care of her husband Emmett after his stroke for 19 years; she was very loyal and had unconditional love for her family.

She loved woodworking, feeding her birds and gardening, especially her flowers which she took great pride in, she canned and was also an amazing cook. Edna loved sewing and made sure to make a quilt for all of her many grandchildren. She was also an avid Scrabble player playing more games than probably anyone else ever. She cherished her visits once a month from John, Paul and others so she could challenge them to a game of Scrabble. Edna was very active at the four season’s center in Roseau making her beloved homemade chicken noodle soup.  She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Roseau where she met her forever friends Morris and Joann Hulst.

Edna is preceded in death by her loving husband Emmett;  grandsons, Brian Finley, Tommy Saagge; great-grandson Aaron Pigeon, and her parents.

She is survived by her children, Arnie (Nona) Finley, Galen (Arlene) Finley, Phyllis (Arlin) Saagge, Madeline (Dale) Hagen; grandchildren, Matt Finley, Beau Finley, Lawauna Cappa, Angela Finley, Jason Finley, Tammy Saagge, Darin Saagge, Rodney Saagge, Andrea Wiskow, Ryan Hagen, Rebecca Hagen, Travis Hagen, Rachelle Donaldson; sister, Ruth Foster  as well as numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
