Douglas M. Vacura

March 7, 1942 ~ April 9, 2020 (age 78)

Douglas MacArthur Vacura was born on March 7th, 1942 to Jack & Alma Vacura of Roseau, Mn.

Douglas passed to be with his Lord & Savior on April 9th, 2020.  He was surrounded by family when he passed peacefully, from this life to life face to face with Jesus.

Douglas was blessed with a very happy childhood, he & his siblings raised by wonderful, loving parents.  Doug enjoyed sports & was a good athlete. Hockey was his favorite sport.

In 1961 Doug married his high-school sweetheart, Jeri Ness. His work took he & his family to the West Coast-Washington, Oregon & California, where he managed 26 shoe departments on the West Coast, East Coast, Alaska & Hawaii.

In 1975 Doug was led by the Lord to return to Northern Minnesota with his family. It was then that God called him to found, build & Pastor Give Glory to God Church. Doug cherished being a Pastor & loved the little flock God gave him to care for. The church, now named Warroad Community Church, is still going strong & bearing much fruit.

Douglas also worked at Marvin Windows & Doors for 30 years. He truly enjoyed working there along with his co-workers, who became his friends.

Doug liked building things, starting with forts in his backyard, to helping build his log home in Salol, Mn, the church in Warroad, two cabins in Beltrami forest & his home in the mountains of Colorado.

Doug found much joy in God's creation- fishing, hunting, hiking, traveling. He especially enjoyed family gatherings & many happy adventures with his family.

Douglas retired from Marvin Windows & Doors in 2005. He & Jeri moved to the mountains of Colorado to live near their children & grand-children. Doug served as an Elder in his local church there for 5 years.

Everyone who encountered Doug was a recipient of his big smiles, big hugs & a positive word. He set a beautiful example of a Godly man, who walked with integrity, honored his father & mother, worked hard & loved well. He was deeply devoted to the Lord, his family & friends. He was loved well by all, in return.

Douglas is survived by his wife Jeri, sons Craig (Tammy) of Castle Rock, Co. Barry (Ruth) of Denver, Co. daughter Cathy of Monument, Co, 10 grand-children & 4 great-grandchildren. Sisters Ann Haugen (Glen) of Thief River Falls, MN, Mary Brandt (Gary) of Worthington, MN. Brother Mitchell of  Rainy River, MN. & many nieces & nephews.  Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Jack & Alma of Roseau, MN. & two brothers, Jan of Chicago, Ill. & Jeffrey of Thief River Falls, MN.

Douglas will be greatly missed & forever remembered in the hearts of his family & friends & all who had the privilege of knowing him.    Due to the recent Corona-virus quarantines, Douglas's family will be having an ' immediate family only' memorial service, when the quarantines are lifted.
