Donald Strandlund Obituary

A Memorial Service will be held at Oiland Free Lutheran Church of rural Greenbush, MN, on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will be at Moe-Rose Cemetery, rural Roseau.

Donald Curtis Strandlund was born August 1, 1937, on the Strandlund Farm, Jadis Township, Roseau, Minnesota, to Elmer and Anna (Mattson) Strandlund.

He grew up north of Roseau, on the family farm, together with his three siblings: Iva, Alice, and Dennis.

Don graduated from Roseau High School in 1955. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Roseau until leaving in 1960. After graduating, Don worked as a truck driver for Byfuglien’s in Roseau, and Zenith Dredge Company in Duluth, Minnesota. He joined the Army National Guard in September of 1960, and was honorably discharged in July of 1966.

Don attended Bemidji State College and Wahpeton School of Science obtaining a degree in drafting. He worked as a draftsman for Honeywell in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, before moving to Boulder, Colorado, in 1966.

His love of hunting and fishing drew him to Colorado. He loved the mountains and the beauty of Colorado. Don worked for various companies as a draftsman in Colorado. He also had a Mr. Fix It business in Boulder. Don was a member of the Harvest Baptist Church in Boulder where he taught Sunday School.

Don married Gloria Bender in July of 1973, and they were married for over 30 years and later divorced.

He moved back to Roseau after retiring in 2001, and purchased the Lornie Olson farm and enjoyed his retirement there. Don was happy to be back “home” after so many years and living so close to his brother, Dennis, and family. He enjoyed being a member of the Oiland Free Lutheran Church in rural Greenbush, Minnesota.

Don married JoAnne White in June of 2009. She survives him along with her children and grandchildren.

Due to failing health, Don moved to the Kittson County Health Care Memory Unit in December of 2020. He passed away there on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at the age of 87.

Don is survived by his brother, Dennis (Rose Ann); nephew, Jerry Beckstrom; and nieces: Lori Lynn, Jodi (Kent) Barth, Julie (Jim) Everson, Deb Strandlund, and Diane (Randy) Williamson. He is also survived by great nephews: David (Michaela) Williamson, Sean Williamson, Andy Williamson, and Eric Everson; and great nieces: Emily Williamson and Leah Everson; and several cousins.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, sisters, Iva Lynn, Alice Beckstrom and brothers-in-law, Ray Lynn and Ralph Beckstrom.

A special thank you to all of the wonderful staff at the Kittson County Healthcare Memory Unit/Senior Living Center in Hallock for their excellent care these past 4½ years.

Blessed be his memory.
