David R. Vatnsdal

A Funeral Service for David R. Vatnsdal of Roseau, MN will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 2:00PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025 from 6-7 at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau with a prayer service at 7 pm, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Spruce Cemetery in Roseau, MN. 

David Vatnsdal passed away on September 16, 2025, after a long journey with multiple myeloma. His final days were at Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center in Fargo, North Dakota.

David was born to Ray and Ardy (Johnson) Vatnsdal and grew up in Roseau alongside his siblings Rocky, Joan, and Lori. He shared many adventures with them during childhood and spent much time with his grandparents, Martin and Lois Johnson, on the family place where he would later live. He learned much from Martin’s example and always appreciated Lois’s cooking.

In June of 1982, David married Roxan (Hamilton), and together they built a life centered around family and simple joys. David enjoyed the outdoors and found peace on the front porch swing with the family cat, Buddy, who acted more like a dog. Throughout his life, he cared for many pets, each of them special to him. His true pride and joy were his two sons, Chris and Carson, his granddaughter Kylie, and Chris’s partner, Stormie Morgan, whom David lovingly called “our daughter.”

David worked at Polaris Industries for 35 years. He spent many years as a lead person on the night shift before moving to the day shift as a welder, where he formed countless friendships. Prior to Polaris, he farmed with RDR Farms for several years.

David is survived by his wife, Roxan; his sons Christopher (with Stormie Morgan) and Carson; his granddaughter Kylie; his sisters Joan (Ken) Olson and Lori (Stu) Weston; sister-in-law Donna (Steve) Dostal; as well as their children and grandchildren. He is also survived by his parents, Ray and Ardy Vatnsdal.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Rocky Vatnsdal, and his grandparents Martin and Lois (Stordahl) Johnson and Jonas and Alida (Erickson) Vatnsdal.

A visitation will be held Friday, September 26, 2025 from 5-7 with a 7P.M. prayer service at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN.  A Funeral Service for David R. Vatnsdal of Roseau, MN will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 2:00PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Spruce Cemetery in Roseau, MN.
