Funeral services for Cheryl Purdy will be held from 5:00 - 6:00 PM on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Swift, MN.

Cheryl Lynn Purdy passed away on October 8th, 2021 in Roseau, MN at the age of 58.

A Message from her son Justin Matich:

My mother was a very loving and caring person to others. She was a mother figure to all my friends and they called her mom. A lot of my friends came from broken a home, that’s where my mother gave them love with a warm plate of food, money, or a warm hug. She had a way of bringing a smile to everyone’s face she met. She would always make jokes to make people laugh and she considered all of her friend’s family. Cheryl had 2 siblings Kirk Wade Purdy and Larry Wayne Purdy. She had 3 children; her two daughters, Michelle Marie Mulanix and Erica Lynn Bacon, and son, Justin Matich.

Cheryl was born in Durham, North Carolina on February 21st, 1963. She spent a lot of time moving all over the place from North Carolina to Wisconsin in Purdy Valley where all the Purdy’s are from and South Dakota then Minnesota graduating from St. Paul High School and never went to college.

She loved to attend my Tae Kwon Do classes; she went on several field trips with me. She loved camping, and BBQs. Cheryl worked at Bayview Resort in Minnesota as a Housekeeper and also worked at Skillet and Productive Alternatives in Brainerd, MN. She enjoyed her music, some of her favorites being Whitney Huston and Michael Bolton. She tried to give me a better life then she had. She had a few pets growing up including a parakeet, and a couple of dogs and cats. Her brother and dad as well as me her son were all members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I’ll never forget the time I came back from Tae Kwon Do and she asked me what I learned. I told her I did a roundhouse kick and accidently kicked her in the eye, and she wasn’t mad at me she just smiled. Her favorite things she liked to do were cross stitching, latch hook, and coloring. She loved my dachshund dogs, painting, cats, birds, traveling, music, and as my dad would always say she was a wild one.

She taught me forgiveness because there were a lot of things she would always ask me to forgive her for. I would always tell her I forgive, but can’t forget. She also taught me manners like please and thank you.

Her legacy, she gave so much of her love to other people before her own kids. She would have her bad days and good days. She inspired many others in small ways. Even though I know she is gone now I know her legacy will live on in all of us.

I love you more and miss you more is what I told her. She said “no I do” Mwah “talk to you later.” As we grieve the loss of this incredible woman remember grief is the price of love. Mom thank you for everything you’ve given me and everyone else. With all your precious love on earth, Love your son Justin.

She is preceded in death by her father Craige Reeves Purdy, mother Margaret Lou Stephens, brother Larry Wayne Purdy, and brother Kirk Wade Purdy.
