Charles Bergstrom Obituary

A Funeral Service for Charles L. Bergstrom of Wannaska, MN will be held on Monday, June 27, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Riverside Lutheran Church in Wannaska. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2022 from 5-7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Wannaska. Military Honors provided by the Roseau Memorial Honor Guard. 

Charles Bergstrom passed away on June 22, 2022 at LifeCare Roseau Manor. He was 96 years old.

Charles Luvern Bergstrom was born on August 17, 1925 in Wannaska, MN to John and Ida (Carlson) Bergstrom. He attended school through 8th grade in a one-room schoolhouse and eventually earned his GED. Charles joined the US Navy. He was honorably discharged in July, 1946.  On June 18, 1947 he married Alice Tangen in Roseau, MN. They had four children, Joanne, Barbara, Gary and Wayne.

After his discharge from the Navy he went to work for Walter Erickson who was a local electrician. For several years Charles worked in electrical construction. He built what is now the Riverfront Gas Station and started Bergstrom Electric in the late 1950’s. He was a director of the Minnesota Electrical Association. In addition to his electrical business he farmed.

Charles loved spending time with family. He attended as many family events and birthday parties as possible. He also had an extensive knowledge about the Wannaska area and was a member of Riverside Lutheran Church and was a charter member of the Wannaska Lions.

Charles was a meticulous man and a good teacher. He was always striving for perfection.  He enjoyed hunting (His hunting cabin was his pride and joy.), fishing, and snowmobiling. He loved to travel and he and Alice were “snowbirds” – spending about 25 winters in Arizona.

Charles is survived by his children, Joanne (Robert) Severson, Barbara (Warren) Ulvin, Gary (Dianne) Bergstrom and Wayne (Jolyn) Bergstrom; fourteen grandchildren, Ryan (Lisa) Severson, Mike (Julie) Severson, Scott (Christy) Severson, Kristina (Jeremy) Fulton, Aaron (Beth) Ulvin, Tanya (Derrick) Byfuglien, Rick (Kristi) Bergstrom, Daniel Bergstrom, Kevin (Amie) Westberg, Laura (Donavon) Dahl, Erin King, Casidy King, Morgan (Trevor) Smith, Floyd Althoff; 25 great grandchildren, Austin (Katlyn) Severson, Alec Severson, Aydon Severson, Adam Severson Anya Severson, Kyle Fulton, Jake Fulton, Kara Ulvin, Anna Ulvin, Leva Ulvin, Maryn Byfuglien, Lauren Byfuglien, Collins Byfuglien, Charles Bergstrom, Parker (Allison) Kvien, Kalleen Kvien, Hilary (Nick) Gram, Morgan (Alan) Ness, Brady Westberg, Sierra Westberg, Everet Westberg, Harrison Smith, Chris (Lindsey) Pickard, Nick (Robin) Rickard, Dani (Nate) Borchardt; and nine great great grandchildren., Kayson Severson, Kelby Severson, Hazel Gram, Hank Gram, Ihla Gram, Holland Ness, Hutton Ness, Teddy Pickard, Alivia Pickard.

He was preceded in death by his wife Alice; sisters, Vandla Tangen and Vivian Berger; daughter-in-law Judy Bergstrom; grandson Pierce Kvien, granddaughter-in-law Lynette Severson; and numerous extended family members.
