Carol A. Broten

A funeral service for Carol Ann Broten, 83, of Roseau, MN will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 11:00 am at Moe Lutheran Church in Roseau. Visitation will be Friday, April 11, 2025 from 5-7 pm at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau.  Interment will be at Moe-Rose cemetery, rural Roseau. 

Carol was born to Ingvold and Olga (Nelson) Olson of Salol, MN on October 18, 1941.  She grew up in Salol, attending school there through the 8th grade.  She was confirmed at Salol Lutheran Church and graduated from Roseau High School in 1959.

Carol and Newell Broten were married on June 14, 1959 in Salol.  Together they raised 3 sons and 2 daughters.  She was employed by her sister Marianne Kristofferson at the Corner Grocery Store in Salol.  In the following years she worked at Oakcrest Golf Course and Jim’s Fishing in Roseau. 

Carol enjoyed spending time with friends and family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved time sitting on her deck, taking care of her flowers and fishing.  Teaching release time classes at Moe Lutheran was also dear to her. 

Carol is survived by her husband Newell, children Neal, Aaron (Mary), Tammy (Travis) Larson, Sharlene (Frank) Gersich and Paul (Aimee), 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, a soon to be born great-grandchild, and brothers Stanley Olson and Ole (Shelia) Olson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Raymond Olson, and sisters Eileen, Marianne, Ruby, Joan and Janice.
