Brett E. Gustafson

Brett Gustafson, Beloved Son, Brother, and Uncle, passed away suddenly on October 23, 2023 in the presence of his loving parents. He was 45 years old.

Brett was born to Marvin and Gayle Gustafson on August 29, 1978 in Roseau MN. He was a special person to all who knew him. Being Autistic, he had a way of thinking that led him to unique interests and a sense of humor that was endearing and made an impression on both friends and strangers. Chances are if you ever met Brett, he asked you how old you are to determine if you were “too old” by his judgment, and followed up with a quiz about what brand of washing machine you have. He kept his devoted parents active with expeditions to ice arenas all over Minnesota to examine their Zambonis, and to vintage record stores to flip through the stacks looking for the precise Motown record needed for his collection. He enjoyed having his sister tell him absurd stories about exploding appliances to make him belly laugh. Brett’s hearty laugh couldn’t help but make others laugh too!

Brett graduated from Roseau High School and in his childhood he participated in Special Olympics in the events of Bowling and Track. He was a member of the Free Lutheran Church of Roseau. To his family he was a source of joy and a mystery to be loved. His challenges opened our hearts and minds to the differences and wonders of God’s creation.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents Harold and Marie Gustafson (Theissen) and Alan and Gladys Anderson (Nelson), his niece Evangeline Kennedy, his cousin Daniel Jenkins, and his uncle Lee Aderson. He is survived by his parents Marvin and Gayle Gustafson (Anderson), sister Nicole Kennedy (Husband Matt), niece Lucinda, and nephews Benno and Rollo.

Losing Brett has left a sudden void in the lives of his family. He will be lovingly remembered and sorrowfully missed by his loved ones who can only take comfort in the knowledge that he is now resting in the arms of his Heavenly Father. A Memorial will be held for Brett on Monday October 30th at 2:00pm at the Free Lutheran Church of Roseau.
