Betty Agnes (Kroeker) Warkentin

Born February 18, 1936 - Died April 25, 2025

Age 89

It is with sadness and love that we announce Betty's passing from this earthly life to her heavenly home. Her kind heart had grown tired, and she peacefully left us to be in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Betty was born and raised in Glenbush, Saskatchewan in a family of six children whose parents had emigrated from Russia. From a young age she helped on her family's farm, both outside and in the kitchen with her mother. At 12 years old, while bringing the cows in, she was struck with the realization that she was ready to commit her life to Christ. She went into the house and prayed with her mother, asking Jesus to be Lord of her life. Therein began a legacy rich with service and commitment to her faith.

After attending Bible School followed by attaining a business certificate, she felt called to move to Denver, Colorado in 1962 to be a business secretary for a new church established there. It was at this church that she met a certain young fellow named Walden. With a little help from the pastor's wife, Walden learned more about Betty and asked her out on their first date to a restaurant called the Red Barn in Denver. These two like-minded individuals would go on to do great things as a couple and be married for 59 years.

In their 59 years together, Betty became a purchasing agent for a new construction company (employee #3 to be hired), eventually working her way up to Purchasing Manager, ordering materials to build: water treatment plants, bridges, overpasses, stadiums, and other large jobs around Denver. Through her 38 years with this company, she had 2 children, a son named Darren and later a baby boy, born stillborn. She served in different church ministries (including Awana) and she and Walden went on several mission trips to Africa with Campus Crusade. Earlier in their marriage, they became property owners/managers of several smaller apartment buildings, servicing them through a portion of their retirement.

They learned to love traveling, taking trips to Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, and different locations around Europe. Their most lengthy and memorable trip was on a cruise ship journeying from the Black Sea to the North Sea; going from the Danube to the Rhine. A trip to Ireland with all 4 grandkids and Darren and Annie was also a great family adventure. They owned a camper and enjoyed setting it up at various locations.

In 2007, Walden and Betty bought a house in Warroad to live part of the year there and part of the year in Denver. They moved to Warroad permanently in 2023. In March of 2025, they moved into the Warroad Senior Living Center. Betty was always happy being with her grandchildren, Andrea, Jillian and Max, Bethany, and Katrina, and her great-grandson, Brooks. She loved her family deeply, supporting them in prayer; always interested in the details of their lives.

She will be remembered for her love for Walden, her steadfast faith, selfless devotion to others, creativity, eagerness to serve, humbleness, and willingness to work without complaining.
