Bette Lucille (Czeh) Holmgren passed away at her home in Roseau on December 14, 2023, at the age of 82. Bette was born on September 21, 1941 in Thief River Falls, MN to Walter and Linnea (Westberg) Czeh. Bette grew up and graduated from high school in Thief River Falls, MN. On October 10, 1959, she married Wayne Manford Holmgren at First Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Wayne and Bette moved and lived in California, Lake Bronson, MN, Warren, MN, Three Forks, Montana, and Bemidji, MN before settling and raising their family in Roseau. She started her career at The Roseau Insurance Agency in, working there from 1973-1980. In 1980, Bette began working at Farm Credit Services until her retirement in 2000. Many of the farmers she worked closely with became her friends, as she had the unique gift to make friends with almost anyone she had a conversation with. After retirement, Wayne and Bette became snowbirds and spent their winters in Apache Junction, Arizona.
Bette was a member of the Bemidji Igloo Snowmobile Club and Roseau Dance Club for many years. She was also a member of the Roseau Bowling League and enjoyed many state and national bowling tournaments with her fellow bowling league members. Bette had a love for gambling and could often be found playing the slot machines at a casino or winning big at Bingo. She made many trips with her parents and siblings to Las Vegas to test their luck at the big time casinos. Bette was a Minnesota Vikings football fan, but this relationship was often a love-hate one. She was also a collector and had collections of bells from her travels and Beanie Babies, to name a few. Bette always looked forward to her weekly visits to the hair salon to get pampered and chat away with all the girls. She loved to chit chat and always had a quick witted response ready to keep her audience on their toes. She was a firecracker, but gave the best hugs to the ones she loved the most. Bette was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, and will be missed dearly by the ones fortunate enough to have been loved by her.
Bette is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Wayne Holmgren, and their children Rod Holmgren; Moorhead, MN, Rhonda (Dan) Russell; Knoxville, IA, and Randy (Cindy) Holmgren; Roseau, MN. She is also survived by her siblings: Lois Anderson, Wayne (Pat) Czeh, Jeanne (Dave) Cloutier, and Judy (Larry) Everson, and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Breanna (Jerone) Kennedy, Brittney (Bobby) Welinski, Natalie (Dustin) Rider, Josh (Natalie) Russell, Madicyn Holmgren and Ava Holmgren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Czeh; mother, Linnea Westberg Czeh; infant brother; mother and father-in-Law, Alice and Manford Holmgren; sister, Wenda Czeh Thygeson; sister-in-Law Joyce Holmgren Barger Simpson; brother-in-Laws, Harold Anderson and DuWayn Thygeson; and nephews, Mark Thygeson and Mike Barger.
A Celebration of Life for Bette Holmgren of Roseau will take place on Thursday, December 21, 2023, from 3:00-5:00pm with a Prayer Service at 5:00pm.
