Bertha H. Erickson

A Memorial service for Bertha H. Erickson of Baudette, MN will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 10:00 AM at First Lutheran Church in Baudette, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at Hope Cemetery in Roseau, MN at a later date. 

Bertha H. (Magnuson) Erickson of Baudette, was born May 31, 1932 to Alvin and Alice (Olafson) Magnuson in Ross, MN. She passed away on March 30, 2021 at Lifecare Roseau Manor at the age of 88. 

After graduating Roseau High School, Bert was hired by Roseau County Social Services. She met and married Dale Erickson and together they had five children. Their family lived in Roseau, Warroad and Baudette. She also worked at Lake of the Woods County Treasurer’s Office, and was employed by and retired from Northwest Community Action as an outreach worker. Bert was passionate about helping people in the community. She was involved in many community programs such as the Santa Anonymous Program, Commodities distribution, and helped start The Crippled Children’s Clinic in the local area. Her volunteer activities included the American Legion Auxiliary, Cub Scout leader, and helped with quilting at First Lutheran Church and Hobby Club. 

One of her greatest joys was her time at her sewing machine. She created many beautiful quilts, including graduation quilts for her grandchildren, wedding and baby gifts. She also donated numerous quilts to the “Linus Project”. Bert made sure every one of her family members had a quilt that she made. She also spent many hours making crafts enjoyed by so many. Bert passed that love onto her girls and granddaughters. Her hobby and quilting club members became her best friends, and her “apartment neighbors” held a special place in her heart. 

Bert is survived by her brother Gordon (Karen) Magnuson of Virginia Beach, VA and sister Shirley Magnuson of Roseau, MN. Children: Deb (Bill) Sindelir of Rochester, MN; Mark (Teri) Erickson of Lakeville, MN; Diane (Don) Hayes of Roseau, MN; Mike (Pat) Erickson of Pine City, MN; and Susie (Jeff) Boeckmann of Deephaven, MN. Eight grandchildren: Evan (Ye) Erickson; Melissa (Scott) Brier; Kelsey Sindelir; Emily (Darin Kullot) Erickson; Nathan (Shannon) Hayes; Nick (Abby) Erickson; Beth Erickson; Lexi Boeckmann. She also has three great-grandchildren: Ingrid, Olivia, and Hensen. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant siblings, brother Clarence, and sisters Avis and Lorraine.

Bert will be greatly missed by her family, hobby club, quilting club, and many friends.
