Barbara Jean Welin was born in Roseau, MN on February 13, 1938 to Clark and Zora (Frost) Drown. She grew up in Roseau and attended school there.

Barb was a woman of strong Christian faith. Growing up she was a member of the United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school and the annual Christmas programs.  Later, after the Methodist church closed, she became a member of the Roseau Community Church where she was very active in Bible studies. She loved to knit, read, sew, and study the Bible. She enjoyed her cats, gardening, tending her flowers and baking. Her family especially loved her caramel rolls! She would bring many of her baked goods to people who could no longer do their own baking. Barb was also part of a group of women who started the Mother’s Garden near the bridge on highway 11 in Roseau.

Barb worked at Polaris Industries for 34 years, retiring on her 62nd birthday. She was an avid snowmobiler and raced in the Powder Puff, went on Women of Snow trips and was a member of the Trailblazers. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, a social organization for women of all ages.

In 1985 Barb married Roger Welin. After marrying Roger they built a home at Sandy Shores. She enjoyed having all of their children and grandchildren stay with them. Family meant the world to her. She loved having a big family and was proud of all of them!
