Ardell Snare Obituary

A Funeral Service will be held for Ardell C. Snare of Roseau, MN on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Messiah Lutheran Church following all MN Covid Guidelines. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Ardell Clarice Sorteberg Snare was born on December 26, 1926 at Ross, MN to Alfred and Clara (Braaten) Sorteberg. She passed away on February 1, 2021 at LifeCare Medical Center in Roseau, MN at the age of 94.

She attended grade school at Ross, graduated from Badger High School in 1944, and attended Teacher Training in Roseau in 1945. She taught school for three years in Dieter Township.

Ardell met Charles Snare during a plane ride in Greenbush, MN. They married on June 27, 1948 at a beautiful wedding at Concordia Lutheran Church in Ross where Ardell had been baptized and confirmed.

They lived in Greenbush, Breckenridge, MN and Park River, ND where their three daughters were born. In 1968 they moved to Casper, WY where Charles passed away in 1973. Ardell lived there until 1975 when she moved to Roseau to be near family.

She worked at REM Children’s Home in Roseau and at the Roseau Hospital where she worked as an aide for rehab and in the pharmacy for 17 years, retiring in 1991.

Ardell was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of Norway, Roseau Garden Club and Four Seasons Senior Center where she received the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award for community service in 2017. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and was very active in circle and quilting. She was the family storyteller and love quilting, crocheting and growing flowers. She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and could speak the language. One of her favorite memories was her trip to Norway with other family members to meet their Norwegian relatives.

Ardell was preceded in death by her husband Charles; her parents; sisters Inez (Helmer) Solom and Muriel (Kenneth) Hagen; brothers Arville, Russell and Chester. She is survived by three daughters Debera (Harold) Siems of Casper, WY, Cynthia Zapata of Beaumont, TX and Roxanne (Greg) Lislegard of Pinecreek, MN; seven grandchildren Heather Dahl, Kimberly Ruhter, Amber (fiancée Erik) Lislegard, Keith Lislegard, Justin (Erin) Siems, Marcus (Angel) Zapata, Aarica (fiancée Keith) Zapata; six great-grandchildren Tyra, Anastasia, Christian, Kylee, Everlee, and David; sisters Nina (Duane) Austin of Crookston, MN and Carol Dallum of Roseau; one special dog, Mia. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; great, great nieces and nephews; and even two great, great, great nieces. (She would always jokingly add “Heavy on the great”.)
