Andrew A. Lystad

Andrew (Andy) Lystad, 90, passed away on 9/27/2024 at LakeWood Hospital in Baudette, MN.

Andy Lystad was born on November 3, 1933 in Baudette, MN, to Sigurd Lystad and Sadie Lystad. Andy graduated from Baudette High School in 1952.  He was a jack of all trades. He worked as a mechanic, welder, farmer, and house mover for over 70 years. He was a collector with a scrap yard of buried treasure. He was mostly self employed.

Andy married Muriel Lilley on October 1, 1998 in Pitt Community Church . Andy had been married previously to Shirley (Castle) Darga, Mary (Berg) Pinney and Kate (Pierce) Lystad.

Andy had eight children,  Daniel (Judy) Lystad, Neomie (Elvin) Heddan, Delilah Lystad (Hubert Wieser), Neil Lystad, Philip Lystad, Mary (Albert) Albrecht, Martha Lystad (Carter Novacek), Mark (Elizabeth) Lystad. Muriel added three children to the family Joe (Betty) Lilley, Darrel (Janice) Lilley and Kenny Lilley. By previous marriage Kate Lystad brought Glenda Wallace and Sam Pierce into our extended family. 

Andy was best known for giving a helping hand and being a servant to those in need. He had a faith in his heavenly father that he share with all around him. He will be remembered as a mentor and teacher and could fix just about anything. He was a kind and gentle soul and would often take time for a cup of coffee and cookie. He would be at church on Sunday morning. He enjoyed square dancing, old time country music and his dogs. He loved his Mopar. In recent years he would often be found working a puzzle or reading his bible.

Andy is preceded in death by Sigurd Lystad - father, Sadie Lystad - mother, Dick Nordgren - brother-in-law, Norman Lystad - brother, Howard Lystad - brother, Kate Lystad - spouse, Glenda Wallace - step daughter, Sam Pierce - step son. 

Andy is survived by Muriel Lystad - spouse,   Daniel Lystad - son, Neomie Heddan - daughter, Delilah Lystad - daughter, Neil Lystad - son, Philip Lystad - son, Mary Albrecht - daughter, Martha Lystad - daughter, Mark Lystad - son, Lilly (Ron) Berg - sister, Anna Nordgren - sister. His 12 grandkids, 20 great grandkids and 2 great, great grandkids, and many extended step grandkids/great grandkids- too many to count. His many friends, church family and Carp neighbors.

The memorial service for Andrew Lystad will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 11: 00 AM at Pitt Community Church. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at 5-7 PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Baudette. Private family service Elm Park Cemetery, Baudette, MN at a later date. The service at Helgeson Funeral Home will be handicap accessible due to the elevator at the Pitt Community Church being non operational.
