Alice Edna Knight went peacefully and joyfully home to be with her Savior on August 12th, at the Warroad Senior Living Center, surrounded by her daughters and the loving staff of the WSLC. She was born at home in Newark, Vermont, to Carroll and Edna (Hunter) Foster on October 25, 1935, Alice was happiest when spending time with her family, taking road trips, gardening, horseback riding, quilting, and listening to Southern Gospel Music. As one of six siblings, she spent her childhood on a small farm in Vermont, which grew into a love for farm animals and plants of all kinds that continued throughout life. She loved her horses, growing and canning vegetables, and had a special affinity for pink and yellow roses. In her teens, she was introduced to the Lord Jesus by Paul Knight, her soon to be husband, and accepted Christ as her Savior while harvesting tomatoes with the guidance of Paul’s older brother Arville, a pastor. She soon learned to love God and Gospel music as much as the rest of her new family. Throughout her life, Alice enjoyed many careers: homemaker, restaurant owner, insurance agent, and property management specialist. Of all these roles, she loved being a mom and homemaker most of all. The sacrificial love she shared with each of her children is, perhaps, her greatest legacy. She also especially enjoyed her job here in Warroad, providing medical travel, because she loved helping so many interesting people and because she loved to drive. She treasured each of the twelve years she lived at Warroad Senior Living Center and grew to consider the exceptional staff and residents there as family.
Alice’s beauty, charismatic personality, and laughter will be missed most by the family she leaves behind: her sister, Phyllis Eva Foster Olin; three daughters, Patricia Langley of Warroad, MN, Carolyn (Terry) James of Middletown, OH, and Rebecca Colden of Warroad, MN, her son, Paul G. (Lori) Knight of Ripon, CA, and grandchildren, Christian Knightwalker, David (Heather) Griffin, Jimi Knight, Clayton Clark, Sara (Dave) Corder, Vince (Jamie) Colden and Nathan James; twelve great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. In last year of her life, she was able to spend time three of the youngest members of the family (Olivia, Maddox, and Greyson) which brought her great joy.
Alice is preceded in death by Paul, her love of nearly seventy years; her parents, Carroll and Edna; brothers Ralph, Harold, Reginald, and Myrl Foster; and infant son, Christopher Knight. A celebration of Alice’s incredible and colorful life, led by Pastor Wayne Maxwell of Woodland Bible Church, will be held at the church, followed by a private family burial at Riverside Cemetery.
