Merrill O. Lisell

Merrill Owen Lisell passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2018, in Roseau, MN.  He was born on January 15, 1942 to Oscar and Thilda (Brandt) Lisell at Chilgren’s Home Hospital in Roseau, MN.  Merrill grew up in the Malung area and graduated from Roseau High School in 1960.

Merrill was a plumber and pipefitter by trade and was a lifetime member of Local #11 in Duluth, MN.  He worked on many large construction jobs in Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota in his 40 yrs. of working.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his early years, playing cards later in life, as well as spending time with family.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  Merrill and Donna Sorteberg were united in marriage on May 12, 1962.

Merrill is survived by his children:  Dawn, Terry (Carita), Jamie and Danielle;  five grandchildren:  Sofia, Madalyn, Damien, Octavia and Adonnaka;  his best friend, Donna Peterson, and her children:  Kathy (Ralph), Gregory (Christine), Julie (Dan), Jeff (Annette), Bob (Sandy); his sister, Lamae Norman, and many nieces and nephews.

Merrill was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Thilda, his wife Donna, daughter Tracy, his sisters: Lillian, Harriet, Beda, and his brother, Dalton.

A special thanks to Donna Peterson for her years of care and the companionship they shared.  Merrill’s wishes did not include a funeral.  His life will be celebrated at a graveside service for family and friends on Friday 2:00 PM, June 1, 2018 at Malung Cemetery, south of Roseau.. Merrill will be deeply missed by all of those who knew and loved him.
