A Funeral Service for Jon Swenson will be held on Monday, July 3, 2017 at 11:00AM at the Free Lutheran Church in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held from 9-11AM on Monday, July 3, 2017 at the Free Lutheran Church in Roseau, MN. Interment will be held at Norland Cemetery in Salol, MN. Military honors will be conducted by the Roseau Memorial Honor Guard.

Jon Swenson passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the age of 68.

Jon Leslie Swenson was born on April 2, 1949 to John and Bernice (Land) Swenson in Thief River Falls, MN. Jon was raised on a farm near Newfolden, MN. He attended a one room school house in rural Newfolden, and graduated from Newfolden High School.

Jon was married and divorced. He enlisted into the United States Army where he served three tours in Vietnam, from September 17, 1968 – November 7, 1970. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Craft Crewman’s Badge, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal 1st OLC, and Army Commendation Medal 1st OLC. On September 11, 1976 married Colleen Jorgensen at the Lutheran Brethren Church of Thief River Falls, MN. Jon worked as a mechanic and snowmobile test driver with Arctic Cat Enterprises of Thief River Falls, MN. He also worked for a time as a mechanic in the oil fields near Watford City, ND, and Marvin Windows and Doors for four years until he started his own business. In 1988 he started “Jon’s Moving Service” where he moved mobile homes, small buildings and hauled livestock. He later retired and enjoyed spending more time with his family.

Jon enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, watching high school hockey, and following the Minnesota Vikings, Twins and Wild.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Hans and Josephine (Laumb) Swenson, Bernard and Carda (Hevle) Land; parents, John and Bernice (Land) Swenson; sister, Delores (Swenson) Sellen; nephew, Brent Sellen; two babies before birth.

Jon is survived by his wife of 40 years, Colleen Jeanette (Jorgensen) Swenson of Windom, MN (formerly of Salol, MN); daughter, Emmy Jean (Nathan) Wildermuth of Bingham Lake, MN; brothers, Don (Loretta) Swenson of Medford, OR, Jerry (Kathy) Swenson of Roseau, MN; grandchildren, Eva Marie Wildermuth and Daniel Jaeger Wildermuth of Bingham, MN as well as several nieces and nephews.
