Harry "Sonny" Muirhead

A Memorial Service for Harry "Sonny" Muirhead will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 1:00PM at Zion Lutheran Church in Warroad, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at America Cemetery in Warroad, MN.

Harry Allen Muirhead Jr. was born to Harry A and Myrtle (Myers) Muirhead. Sonny grew up in this area and attended school in Swift Elementary school. He enlisted in the Navy on 11/6/1944 and served his country in WWII on the USS Saratoga.

Sonny met the love of his life, Etta Fish, and they were married on June 18, 1954 in Warroad and they celebrated over 50 years together.

Sonny owned his own truck and hauled logs and railroad ties for George Marvin.  They relocated for a short period of time, out west in Bend, Medford and Sisters’ Oregon. While in Oregon he did various jobs.  Logging for Brooks Skanland , plowed snow for the state of Oregon. He drove an off road gravel truck for the construction of the Round Butte Dam.

They moved back to Warroad and he drove truck for Thermolite Glass.  Sonny and Etta bought a farm south of Roseau in 1966 and started working for North Star trucking that turned into driving for Polaris.  He retired after 25 years in 1993.

Sonny enjoyed gardening, farming, being in the woods, and traveling in their RV with his love, Etta.  If you knew Sonny, you would know how picky he was about the beauty of his yard.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren giving rides on everything.  Ask anyone of them and they will tell you how much he loved them.  This much!!! 

Sonny was a thoughtful religious man.  He and Etta loved to listen to gospel music and old time country.

Sonny passed away April 6, 2017 at the Warroad Senior Living Center at the age of 89. He is survived by his children Ronald (Jill) Muirhead in Salol, Peggy (Les) Hendrickson in Roseau, Craig Muirhead in Albuquerque,  Tammy (Terrell) James of Denver, Jeffrey (Janet) of Prescott, WI, Jodi (Marty) of Brainerd.  He has 12 grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great Great Grandchild.   Sister Elaine Grill, Sister-in-law Donna Muirhead , Elsie, Guy, Ted, Butch, Jackie, Caroline, David, Albin Fish and spouses.  

Sonny is preceded in death by his wife, Etta, his parents, Harry and Myrtle Muirhead, and siblings: Mildred, Violet, Ione, Margie, Marion, Linda, Carmen, Louise, Peter Muirhead and Dorothy, Milford, Ora, and Rodney Fish.
