Funeral services for Florence Halvorson of Roseau will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Rose Free Lutheran Church in Roseau. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 – 7:00 pm with a 7:00 devotional service at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau. Interment will be at Moe-Rose Cemetery.
Florence Halvorson passed away at LifeCare Roseau Manor on Tuesday, May 21 at the age of 99.
Florence Gladys Halvorson was born on April 28, 1920 to Edward and Julia (Morken) Anderson in Piney, Manitoba. She attended school in Piney and worked as a housekeeper for local farmers in the Piney area. Florence married Severin Halvorson on October 30, 1940 in Thief River Falls, MN. They made their home in International Falls, MN for seven years, when Severin worked in the mills. They moved to Ross Township and bought a farm north of Roseau, MN. Florence worked at home raising their children and helping around the farm. She also worked as a waitress at Christy’s, Encore and Nelson’s Café for 23 years. Florence then worked at Polaris Industries for a year and a half before retiring in 1978.
Florence enjoyed flower gardening, ice fishing and crafts, she participated in Roseau Chamber of Commerce craft fairs for over 23 years. She also sold many of her crafts with her daughter-in-law Kathy with “Crafts By Us Two”. Florence was a member of Rose Free Lutheran Church and the ladies aid. She was very active in garden clubs. She lived at NorthStar Apartments for ten years in Roseau, MN before moving into LifeCare Roseau Manor for the last three years.
Florence is preceded in death by her husband, Severin; sons, Harold and Terry Halvorson; daughter-in-law, Kathy Halvorson; siblings, Myrtle, Mable, Rudolf and Clifford.
She is survived by her daughters, Katharine (David) Grahn of Roseau, MN, Pat (Dick) Johnson of Fargo, ND, daughter-in-law, Connie Halvorson of Roseau, MN, 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
