Memorial services for Donna Halvorson of Roseau, MN will be held on Friday, December 1, 2017 at 11 AM at Rose Free Lutheran Church west of Roseau. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-7 PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau. Donna passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on November 25, 2017, at the age of 61.
Donna was born on September 3, 1956, in Ely, MN, to William and Joyce Tuomala. She graduated from Aurora-Hoyt Lakes High School in 1974 and, shortly after, moved to Roseau in the summer of 1975. She started working at Marvin Windows and Doors. Through mutual friends she met the love of her life, Greg Halvorson, and they were married on June 19, 1976, in Aurora, MN. They made their home in Roseau and farmed with Greg’s family.
In 1983, they purchased the family farm where they raised their two daughters, Janel and Carrie. Over the years Donna worked at various businesses in Roseau, including Pamida, Ace Hardware, BB Diversified, and the Roseau Area Hospital. The last ten years she worked at Norfarm Seeds with Greg.
Donna loved the water. In their free time Donna and Greg enjoyed weekends up at Arnesen’s Rocky Point fishing and golf-carting around. Donna was a great planner and would start planning the next winter trip upon return from their annual winter getaways to warm weather destinations.
Donna loved to take pictures of all their life’s adventures. She was a great shopper! She would always find the best deals and was always shopping for others. She had the knack for finding the perfect gift for anyone. She enjoyed many weekend getaways with “the girls” shopping and enjoying their time together.
Family gatherings were always a priority and she loved attending events for the family whenever she could.
Donna is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Greg Halvorson; two daughters, Janel (Ron) Paupst of Emerado, ND, Carrie (Jeff) Butterfield of Centralia, WA; her mother, Joyce Tuomala of Hoyt Lakes, MN; sisters Marie (Ken) Spencer of Hoyt Lakes, MN, Darlene (Greg) Wicklund, of Cloquet, MN; brother Bob (Debbie) Tuomala of Toledo, WA, sister-in-law, Joanne (Don) Jaenicke of Kokomo, IN; brothers-in-law, Darryl Halvorson of Roseau, Stuart (Thora) Halvorson of Roseau, and John (Sue) Halvorson of Clear Lake, MN; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She is preceded in death by her father, William Tuomala; her grandparents; mother and father-in-law, Helen and Jalmer Halvorson, and sister-in-law, LaMae Halvorson.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial can be made to the Moe-Rose Cemetery fund or the Grand Forks Altru Cancer Center “Filling the Gap” program.
