In lieu of flowers, Memorials preferred to the Wabanica Lutheran Church or the Beckwith-Wiedemann Foundation. Charlotte passed away November 4, 2019, surrounded by family at the Lakewood Health Center in Baudette.

Charlotte was born on April 18th, 1923 to Klemet Haukaas and Charlotte Frances (Acree) Haukaas.  She, her brothers Rowley and Harvik grew up on their parents’ farm southeast of Pitt.  Charlotte enjoyed a happy childhood, many hours herding cows during the day and storytelling at night.  She graduated from Baudette High School.

Charlotte married Milton Mollberg in 1944.  They were blessed with 3 boys and a girl:  Melvin, Eugene, Linda and Stephen.  Milton lost his life in 1951 and many hardships were to follow.  With a small insurance settlement, she bought a small farm in Wabanica Township and made the best of a difficult situation by becoming active in Wabanica Lutheran Church and 4-H, where Charlotte was a leader and held offices in Sunday School, Ladies Aid, and Extension Club.

The summer of 1955, she met Marvin Anderson at the Blue Lantern, a café owned by his parents, just off Route 8.  They had live entertainment where   Marvin played both the guitar and accordian.  He spotted a girl, “there was something about her” and took a break to dance with her.   They were married in 1956 and moved to his family farm in Wabanica where they had 3 girls:  Mardel, Kathy, and Margo.  Charlotte enjoyed embroidery and sewing matching jumpers for the 3 little girls.  She loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens and teaching Sunday School.

Charlotte shared Marv’s love of farming and working with the animals.  It was quite a farm operation, and even the young boys had major responsibilities.     But with several crop failures, Marv picked up other work as both an Immigration Officer at the Baudette bridge, and at the Co-Op elevator.  After Charlotte’s parents passed away, and Marv was offered a job at USDA as a statistician in St. Paul, it wasn’t too difficult to make the decision to move:  except for the children.  Mel enlisted with the Navy, Eugene finished his senior year by staying with the Fausher’s, and Linda and Steve and the 3 little girls went along with them to the cities.  This was just the beginning of several relocations with the federal government.

In 1976, Marv was transferred to Washington, D.C.  and the 3 youngest girls moved with them. While in Manassas, VA. Charlotte became a baker.  She loved this work and considered it her vocation.  However, due to repetitive hand movements, she developed carpel tunnel in both wrists, triggering rheumatoid arthritis which forced her to retire in 1982 at the age of 59.

In 1983, Marv was transferred to Lincoln, NE. as they were looking for a slower paced life in the Midwest.  By then, each of the “little girls” were either married, in college, or established in a job, and did not make the move with them.  Marv & Charlotte started a new adventure with twenty acres, and a small herd of Simmental beef cows and became active in their churches once again.  In 1993 Marv retired from USDA with 29 years of service and they returned to their original home in Baudette to do some retirement farming and Charlotte delved into her passion for gardening club.

In 2016, as they planned to move to Assisted Living, both Charlotte and Marv experienced separate health incidents which required the professional and loving care provided at Lakewood Care Center.
