Betty Mae Hartje

Memorial services for Betty Mae Hartje, age 93 of Papillion, NE, and formerly of Baudette, MN, will be held at a later date in Baudette, MN.  A graveside service will be at Elm Park Cemetery in Baudette, on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 3:30 PM.

Betty Mae Hartje was born May 9, 1925 in Spooner, MN to Robert and Emma Feldkirchner.  She was raised in International Falls, MN where she graduated high school and married Orval William Hartje on May 12, 1946.  After numerous moves related to Orval's employment with the Border Patrol and US Immigration Service, Betty, with her family, returned to "Spooner", known as East Baudette, in 1960.

Betty was very active in her community over the years in the Girl Scout program, American Legion Auxiliary and the First Lutheran Church of Baudette and enjoyed playing cards with her "bridge club".  After Orval's death in 1984, she maintained the family home, yard, flower beds and garden (reducing the size as needed) for many years before selling her home and moving into Summerville Apartments on the west side of Baudette.  Betty enjoyed traveling to visit family throughout the years, including trips to Germany and Guam.

In October of 2015, Betty Mae moved to Papillion, Nebraska to be near her oldest daughter, Deb, and her family.  She first resided in an independent apartment and later moved to Welcov Assisted Living with faithful caretaking by Deb during those years.

Betty is survived by daughter, Deborah Fabry (John);  daughter, Cynthia Brient (Fred);  grandson, Michael Fabry (Nakayla);  granddaughter, Erika Anderson (Dan Bianco);  great grandchildren, Brendan and Alexis Anderson  and Mckenna and Madison Fabry.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orval Hartje, mother and father Emma and Robert Feldkirchner and stepmother, Ruth Feldkirchner.
