Marilyn passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at LifeCare Manor in Roseau, MN at the age of 88 years. Marilyn Olive Kvien was born June 7, 1931 at Sheldon, ND, to Olaf and Myrtle Kvien.
Marilyn graduated from Roseau High School in 1949. After she graduated Marilyn and some friends ventured west, working as they went. They stayed in Montana, Washington and ended up in California.
Marilyn married Emil Flaten on May 17, 1953 in Santa Monica, California. They moved back to Minnesota and farmed for a few years in the Pencer area. They moved to Albany, Oregon and then to Portland, Oregon. Emil and Marilyn moved back to Minnesota in 1970. Marilyn worked at Northern Upholstery and then at Polaris, retiring in 1996.
Emil and Marilyn enjoyed fishing and staying at Buffalo Point before and after retirement. Marilyn loved flowers, quilting, painting, and woodworking. She loved having her family and many friends stop for coffee, flatbread, and a game of Farkle or cards. Wherever Marilyn lived her home was always the gathering spot for friends, family, and neighbors.
During her last years she lived at North Star Apartments and she just loved it there. They were her family and she couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.
