Shawn Olson Obituary

A funeral service for Shawn Olson of Glyndon, MN will take place on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 11:00 am at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau with a visitation an hour prior. Interment will be held at Mickinock Cemetery in Wannaska.

Shawn passed away at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND on April 5, 2024 after a long battle with cancer.

Shawn Marie Olson was born on November 6, 1971 in Roseau, MN to Milfred and Esther Olson.  She attended grade school in Wannaska and graduated from Roseau High School.  Shawn graduated from Moorhead State University with a bachelor's degree in graphic design.  She began working for Richtman's  for 1 1/2 years and then Kays Printing for 1 1/2 yrs after she graduated. Following that she worked for Knight Printing in Fargo. This is where she met the love of her life, Jeff Kuehn.  She worked a short time for Scheels and then went back to Knight Printing where she stayed until she was unable to work.  She also did freelancing for multiple magazines.

Shawn loved dogs and the Minnesota Twins, naming her first dog Herbie after Twins legend Kent Hrbek.  She loved all her dogs, Herbie, Cooper, Benny, and Macy. Each of them held a very special place in her heart.  They truly were her babies.  At Christmas everyone couldn’t wait to see what her card would be about.  She would dress her dogs to play out the years events, anywhere from baseball to movies to political events.  Her gift and creativity was cherished by all.

Shawn loved to travel with Jeff all over the world, her favorite being Jamaica. She enjoyed having bonfires, late-night shenanigans, and fall hayrides. She also appreciated taking in the beauty of the sunset and on occasion, if the night was right, the sunrise.  Shawn and Jeff hosted deer opener for the girls where they created a lot of fun memories.  She loved her Minnesota sports and learned to fight by watching hockey.  She designed many of her family's invitations to weddings and other family gatherings.  Shawn was the family photographer.  She loved to capture all the fun and special moments.  Shawn enjoyed teasing and getting the best of those she loved.  To be teased by her was to be loved by her.

She is survived by her very special significant other Jeff Kuehn; mother Esther Olson; sisters Marlene Boris, Dorene Senne, Diana Schneider, Donna (Larry) Rose, and Sharleen (Pat) O'Connell; brothers Mylan Olson, and Mark Olson; nieces and nephews Matt (Val) Boris, Chad and Paul Senne, Jason (Chandra) Schneider, Tim and Tara Schneider, Allyson (Tobi) Eidsmoe, Aaron (Stacy) Rose, Tanya (Josh) Wiskow, Andy (Kelli) Brateng, Mitchell Olson, Michael (April) Olson, Delaney Olson, and Tyler (Jessica) Loomer; 26 great nieces and nephews; and Jeff's mother Bonnie Kuehn, Jeff's brothers Steve and Brian and niece Brittany Kuehn and longtime loyal friend Rachel (Mike) Hugg and many other special friends.

Shawn was greeted in heaven by her grandparents Willie and Clara Olson and Elling and Emma Williamson; father Milfred Olson; sisters Peggy Baisch and baby Olson; niece Jennifer Kamarainen; nephew Shane Holland; and brothers-in-law Ronald Boris, Lowell Senne, Joseph Schneider and Gene Brateng, and Jeff's father Tom Kuehn.

The family requests guests come in casual dress in jeans with their favorite sports team shirt/jersey, as this was Shawn's personality.
