Mavis L. Brandt

A Funeral Service for Mavis L. Brandt of Roseau, MN will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 11:00AM at Moe Lutheran Church in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 from 5-7PM with a family service at 7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. Interment will take place at Moe - Rose Cemetery in Roseau, MN. 

Mavis Brandt of Roseau passed away on March 11, 2024 at LifeCare Medical Center in Roseau at the age of 79.

Mavis Lorraine Brandt was born on November 24, 1944, to Clarence and Edith (Boen) Sonsteng in Roseau, MN. Mavis grew up in Falun Township and attended school in Salol before graduating from Roseau High School in 1962. After graduation she worked various jobs in the community. On June 25, 1971 Mavis and Clayton Brandt were married in Roseau and they had two children Mike and Todd. In August of 1978, she began her career at Roseau County Social Services where she worked until her retirement in 2002.

Mavis enjoyed snowmobiling, bowling, flower gardening and watching hockey games, but being with family was most dear to her. After Clayton’s death in 2001, Mavis spent her free time traveling and spending time with her family. She loved watching her grandchildren’s activities and just generally being with them. She was a member of Moe Lutheran Church where she participated in the circle groups and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of an area garden club.

She is survived by her children Mike (Tricia) Brandt of Oak Grove, MN and Todd (Melissa) Brandt of Roseau MN; grandchildren Taylor, Alex, Ellen, Mia, and Erin; brother Arlyn (Sandra) Sonsteng; sisters in-law Sharon (Jack) Lund, Beda Sander, and Marilyn Rugland; brother in-law Dale Wold and several nieces and nephews.

Mavis was preceded in death by her husband Clayton in 2001; parents Clarence and Edith; infant brother Roger; brothers in-law Curtis (Helen) Brandt, Edson (Marlys) Brandt; brother in-law Fred Sander Steve Rugland; sisters in-law Deloris (Kenneth) Benson, and Evelyn Wold.
