Lois Hamlin Obituary

A Memorial Service for Lois B. Hamlin of Warroad, MN will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 2:00PM at the Warroad Senior Living Center Chapel. Interment will take place at America Cemetery at a later date.

Lois B. Hamlin passed away peacefully on January 18, 2024 at the Warroad Senior Living Center at the age of 86.

Lois was born April 11, 1937 at home in Warroad, MN to Charles “Hubert” and Maline (Lundeen) Hamlin.  She attended country schools and Warroad High School, graduating in 1956.  She worked at a bakery in Virginia, MN to put herself through college.  Lois graduated from the Virginia School of Practical Nursing in 1959, where she was selected an outstanding student.  She started her nursing career at St. Barnabas hospital in Minneapolis.  Shortly thereafter, Lois moved to Duluth where she worked at St. Luke’s Hospital for 42 yrs.  She was a loving, caring nurse who dedicated her life to helping people.

Lois was known to be a hard worker, planner, excellent organizer and an amazing cook.  She was an active member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran church in Duluth, and continued to be active in Warroad congregations in later years after moving from Duluth to Warroad in 2013.  Bible study was a favorite,  and many have said she really knew the Bible.  Lois enjoyed collecting stamps, coins, and turtle figurines, had a beautiful collection of purses, and closely followed the sports scene.  She was a true Norwegian who loved her lefse!  She was a thoughtful gift giver and was known for wrapping beautiful gifts for family during Christmas.  She had many special friends from work,  church and the community who she thought of as family.  The Ryan family specifically was near and dear to her heart.  Lois found joy in traveling to new destinations, she particularly favored trips to Ireland and Savannah, GA as well as a road trip to Washington state to visit relatives with sisters Betty and Arlene and brother-in-law Ed.  Lois made continual impacts on the lives she touched.

Lois is preceded in death by her parents Charles “Hubert” and Maline Hamlin, sister-in-law Patty Hamlin,  brother-in –law Sheldon Olson,  nephew baby boy Salin, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Lois is survived by her brother Leverne Hamlin, sister Arlene Olson and her step children Nancy (Ken) Sperle, Sheldon Olson,  Jr., Kenneth (Marianne) Olson;  sister Betty (Edward) Salin and their children Monica (Robert) Wennerstrand and Sara (Tyler Liska), Michelle (Les) Faskerti, Breanna (Matt Reed) and Stephanie, Mitchell (Kayla) Salin, Gage (Jody), Greta, Bradley and Hayden, and several cousins.

The family would like to thank everyone at the Warroad Senior Living Center and Helgeson Funeral Home for the tremendous care and support.
