John passed away on March 15th at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND after a brief battle of Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

John Carl Wahlberg was born on March 16th, 1942 to Carl and Hazel (Dornfeld) Wahlberg in Roseau, MN.  He grew up and and attended school in Roseau.  He attended college at the University of Minnesota and graduated with a degree in Pharmacy.  While attending school he met Mavis Berwald and they were married on August 14, 1965 and had 3 girls, Susan, Sally and Sarah.  After graduation, John and Mavis purchased Fikkan’s Pharmacy in Roseau and added a gift and jewelry store.  Eventually, a second location was developed in Warroad, MN and John split his time in both locations where he enjoyed filling in at the pharmacy keeping his connections to his valued customers.

John was an avid outdoor sportsman of both fish and wildlife who put as much time and effort into supporting and developing wildlife habitat as he did hunting and fishing.  Enjoying days in the woods, on the farm or at the lake led to the development of cabins throughout his lifetime where friends and family could gather to cross-country ski, hunt and fish.  Especially, dear was the time spent at Flag Island each summer since 1985.

John is survived by his wife, Mavis and daughters Susan(Paul) of Roseau and Sally(Bryan) of Neenah, WI; grandchildren, Sarah, Kirsten(Scott), Samuel Grafstrom and Jerome, Piper, Syri and Layton Brandt; sister Chris Wahlberg and brothers-in-law Eugene, Ken(Sylvia), Carl(Kathy) and Bruce(Suki) Berwald and Robert Andrus; and sisters-in-law Janet Van Blaricom and Judy Berwald; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents; Hazel and Carl; daughter, Sarah and grandchildren, Payton and Noah Brandt.  Brother and Sister-in-laws; Glen Berwald, Carol Andrus and Geraldine Berwald.
