Gary Allen Butler of Salol, MN passed at the VA in Fargo, ND at the age of 79 on February 11, 2024. He was born in Roseau, MN to Edward and Jane (Voll) Butler on October 9, 1944. Gary attended grade school in Salol, high school for a time in Roseau and later as a Vietnam Veteran went on to ag school. He served in the United States Army from 1965-1968 in Germany and Vietnam. Gary and Arlette (Cole) were married at Norland church in June 1970, they later divorced.
Gary worked at Marvin Windows for 26 years and Polaris for 13 years. He also did slaughtering for the Roseau Locker.
Hunting was a big part of his life, and he liked to fish, growing to love tying flies for fly fishing later in life. Gary enjoyed watching the Lakers, and his sons, grandsons and granddaughter play hockey. He was a member of the Family Fundamental Church.
Gary is survived by his sons Dorial (Sarah), Jerome (Mary), Dwayne (Misty) and Allen (Michelle); 13 grandsons, 12 granddaughters, and 3 great-grandchildren; Arlette; brothers Jimmy (Donna), Glen, John and Mark; sisters Marylou (Jim) Jenson and Julie Schriock; and many nieces and nephews.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Jane Butler, sister Roseanne, grandparents, in-laws Maynard and Ellen Cole, an uncle, several aunts, cousins and brother-in-law Gordyn Huerd.
A Graveside Service for Gary Butler of Salol will take place at Norland Cemetery in Salol, MN on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 1:00pm. Military Honors will be done by the Roseau Ceremonial Squad.
