Ruby A. Dahlgren

Funeral services for Ruby Dahlgren of Roseau will be held on Monday, December 22, at Helgeson Funeral Chapel in Roseau at 10:00 a.m.  Visitation will be on Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at Helgeson Funeral Chapel in Roseau with a devotional service following at 7:00 p.m.

Ruby Augusta Dahlgren, the daughter of Alma (Jacobson) and Herman Norquist was born on August 29, 1921 in Roseau, MN.  She attended school north of Roseau through the eighth grade.

Ruby married Oliver Dahlgren on March 1, 1939 in Roseau.  They moved to Falun Township where they farmed.  They had a small dairy operation and raised their family of eight children on the farm.  Ruby milked cows and helped with all aspects of the farm and housework, and Oliver farmed and worked in the woods.  In the mid 1960’s Ruby started at Marvin Windows and Doors and worked there until her retirement in 1985.  

Ruby loved to cook and bake.  She was a tremendous seamstress and made most of her children’s clothes.  She made many dresses for the girls and most of the undergarments for all of the kids.  She liked to can blueberries and raspberries.  She also loved her trips to play at the casino.

Ruby Dahlgren passed away on December 17, at LifeCare Manor in Roseau.  She was 93 years old.

Ruby is survived by her children, Myrna Pike (Roger Wallin) of St. Francis, MN, Gary (Gloria) Dahlgren of Birch Beach, MN, Donald (Judith) Dahlgren of Lacrescent, MN, Richard (Kim) Dahlgren of Stillwater, MN, Beverly (Jerry) Bear of Grand Forks, ND, Barbara (Emil) Stach of Riverton, Utah, and Mavis (Sam) Leathes of Dilworth, ND; one sister, Gladys Karlsen of Warroad, MN; 21 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Oliver, son John Ray, and siblings: Arnold, Walter, Elner, Stan, Mae, Edna, and Edie.
