Welcome to the memorial page for

Roy E. Pearson

March 29, 1925 ~ September 21, 2015 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Roy Everett Pearson, 90 years and six months, died peacefully at home in the presence of loved ones on September 21, 2015.

A fiercely-loved and respected patriarch, Roy will be remembered for his steadfast faith in God; for his devotion to his family; for his dedication to the land; and for his tangible legacy of planting and caring for trees.

Roy was the youngest child born to Hedvig (Sorum) and Sven Pearson on March 29, 1925, in Robbinsdale, Minnesota.  He was five years old when his parents moved to Falun where Roy grew up.  He married his grade school friend and neighbor, Margaret Clasen, at Pine Grove Lutheran Church on June 28, 1945.  Together they cleared the land they farmed for 70 years and were blessed with four children who were showered with unconditional love and unbridled affection.  For all of their married life, they faithfully worshipped at the Bethel Mission Covenant Church.

At various times during his life, Roy was an avid reader of non-fiction, hiker, fisherman, trapper and hunter.  He enjoyed Warroad Laker hockey games, traveling, libraries, family outings, and political discussions.  Most of all, he derived great joy from the company of his children and grandchildren wherever he went.  For them, he was an example of how to live decently and honorably with integrity.

Farmer, lumberjack, husband, father, and grandfather – those were Roy’s callings, and he fulfilled them with strong hands and a generous heart.

Roy is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, and his four children: Judy Patberg (Bill) of Toledo, Ohio; Joyce Pearson (Rodney) of Warroad; Gayle Peterson (Bill) of Salol; and Wayne Pearson (Pamela) of Salol.  Also surviving him are 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; nieces, Joan Jensen (Ordean) of International Falls and Jean-Galusha Bragg (Norbert) of Devlin, Ontario; and a nephew, Colin Pearson (Shelley) of Warroad.  Roy’s parents and his four brothers – Edwin, Oscar, Ernest, and Raymond – preceded him in attaining eternal life.

A memorial service celebrating Roy’s life will be held at Helgeson Funeral Chapel in Roseau at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2015.  Visitation will take place at 1:00 P.M.  Interment will be at Falun Cemetery.
