Robert "Bob" R. Behrends

Funeral services for Bob Behrends of Baudette, MN will be held on Friday, January 22nd at 2 PM at Wabanica Lutheran Church in Baudette.  Visitation will be one hour prior at the church with interment at Wabanica Cemetery.

Robert Raymond Behrends, 89, passed away suddenly on January 15, 2016, surrounded by family and friends at the Lakewood Health Center in Baudette, MN.

Bob was born on May 6, 1926 to William and Anne (Hippen) Behrends in Mountain Lake, MN.  Bob graduated from Buffalo Center High School (IA) in 1944.  He was baptized October 26, 1926  and confirmed April 9, 1944.  On November 24, 1945 he married Beulah Mae Weaver in Forest City, IA.  They began their dream of dairy farming near Buffalo Center, IA.  In 1957 they moved with their six young children to a farm near Clarissa, MN.  Bob and Beulah continued to run the family farm raising State Champion Registered Holstein cattle until their retirement in 1999.  During that time they were awarded the Minnesota Premier Dairyman Award twice, and several other Minnesota State Dairy Awards.   They enjoyed bowling, playing cards and woodworking.  In 1999 they moved to Wabanica Township, north of Baudette, MN on the Rainy River.  Bob was an active member of the Wabanica Lutheran Church.  He enjoyed fishing with family and friends.  Bob also spent many hours with his Thursday morning  “Drinking Buddies.”

Bob is survived by five children  DiAnne Mowrey of Salem, OR;  Jim (Patty) Behrends of Annandale, MN;  Laurie (Eugene) Mollberg of Baudette, MN;   Al (Mary) Behrends of St. Peter, MN;  Jeanne (Tim) Klassen of Little Falls, MN; and a daughter-in-law Cathy (Behrends) Thompson of Fillmore, UT;  fourteen grandchildren;  nineteen great grandchildren;  and one great, great granddaughter.   He is also survived by his youngest sister, Darlene Benner of Portland, OR;  two sisters-in-law, Eileen Behrends of Rake, IA; and Alma Behrends of Buhler, KS; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Bonnie and Don Criswell of Urbandale, IA; and sisters-in-law Marcella Weaver and Darlene Weaver of Buffalo Center, IA; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah (2005); his oldest son, Michael (2000); a son-in-law Gary Mowrey (2012); his parents and six older siblings.

Grandpa Bob will be missed by his family and friends.  Blessed be his memory.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Wabanica Luthercn Church.
