Funeral services for Robert Hedlund of Strathcona, MN and formerly of Roseau, MN will be held on Wednesday, February 25th at 3 PM at Bethel Lutheran Church in Stafford, southwest of Roseau. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5-7 PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau. Interment will be at the Bethel-Stafford Cemetery.
Robert Martin Hedlund was born on June 30, 1954 in Roseau, MN to Alice (Hedman) and Martin Hedlund. He grew up on the Hedlund family farm southwest of Roseau. He graduated from Roseau High School in 1973. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves for several years. He continued to farm small grain, turkey and beef in Stafford and Poplar Grove Township for most of his life. In addition, he worked at Polaris Industries for a few years. He was married a short time and had three children. He and Yvonne (Krzoska) were married in 1995. They lived in Strathcona for the last twenty-four years.
He loved spending time outdoors with his family. Hunting, fishing, shooting targets with his kids, and his work on the farm were all hobbies. He enjoyed visiting with all his friends and family. His dog, Molly, was always by his side.
He will be remembered as a hard-working farmer and a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was strong and gentle at the same time. His gift of storytelling and wonderful sense of humor will be remembered. Blessed be his memory.
Robert is survived by his wife, Yvonne Hedlund of Strathcona, MN; children, Nathaniel (Richelle) Hedlund of Las Vegas, NV, Amanda (Andrew Grant) Hedlund of Los Angeles, CA and Garrett (Kirsten Dunst) Hedlund of Los Angeles, CA; grandchild, Maverik; step-children, Jennifer and Cody; step-grandchildren, Ariel, Zak and Claire; siblings, JoAnn (Bob) Bell of Maryland; Jeannette Hedlund of Duluth, MN, Joyce ( Phil) Olson of Pitt, and June (Roland) Wensloff of Roseau; special friend, Diane Garasha; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Alice; brother, Emil Hedlund; and sister, Janice Hedlund. Robert passed away on February 21, 2015 at the LifeCare Medical Center at the age of 60.
