A Funeral Service for Pearl I. Mitterling of Roseau, MN will be held on Monday, February 15, 2016 at 11:00AM at the First Baptist Church in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 14, 2016 from 5-7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at Malung Cemetery.
Pearl Inga Grindahl Mitterling passed away on February 11, 2016, at LifeCare Medical Center in Roseau at the age of 89.
Pearl was born July 7, 1926, in Roseau to Henry and Frances (Zak) Grindahl. She grew up on a farm in Malung Township and graduated from Roseau High School. She worked as a waitress in various cafes. She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, canning, and picking blueberries and raspberries.
On December 13, 1947, she was united in marriage to Russell Mitterling. Together they worked at the school and raised mink. She was a cook at the Malung School from 1952 to her retirement in 1984.
She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church, where she and Russell were church custodians for several years. She was also a Sunday school teacher for many years and was active in the church women’s group. She was always willing to lend a hand at church whenever needed, and enjoyed volunteering.
Leaving the farm, they moved into Oakcrest Senior Housing in May 2011. She spent many good days working on puzzles, Wii bowling, movie nights with popcorn, singing with the Melodears, and drinking coffee with friends.
She is survived by two sisters, Ethel Winji of Midland, Texas, Lilly Strong of International Falls, two brothers, Elmer (Ercyl) Grindahl of Roseau, Floyd Grindahl of Malung, several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, Frances (Zak) and Henry Grindahl, her husband Russell, two sisters, Rose Mitterling, Violet Wahlin, three brothers, John, Carl and Nels Grindahl.
