Marjorie A. Weston

Marjorie A. Weston, 91, of Roseau passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at the Roseau Area Hospital in Roseau.

Her funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 8, 2016 at the Roseau Community Church in Roseau, Rev. Jared Gustafson and Rev. Bob Ludwig officiating. Burial will be in the Moe Rose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to “Walk to Remember” of Roseau. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 7 from 5 - 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 prayer service at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau.  

Marjorie A. Boomgaarden was born on November 2, 1925 to Harvey and Ella (Seeley) Boomgaarden on the family farm near Langdon, North Dakota. She grew up there and attended Harvey Township school and graduated from Langdon High School. She graduated from Valley City State Teacher’s College in Elementary Education and taught for several years in rural North Dakota.  Because of her experience on the Langdon HS Cardinal tumbling team, she was also hired to coach tumbling.

On November 21, 1954 she was united in marriage to Herbert L. Weston in Langdon, North Dakota. After a short time in Kentucky and North Carolina, where Herb served in the Army, they moved to Bemidji and a few years later to Roseau, where they raised their family. They lived in Roseau for nearly 60 years, except for a brief time in Maida, North Dakota.  Marjorie couldn’t wait to get back to Roseau, where she lived for the rest of her life.

Marjorie loved being around people.  She was active in her church as a Sunday School teacher, organist and as a member of women’s ministries.  She participated in many community activities, such as the Roseau Garden Club and the Hospital Auxiliary, substitute teaching, working at Sheltering Oaks and the optical clinic, and hosting friends for coffee and her famous baked goodies.  She loved gardening, especially her beautiful mum and iris beds, knitting, doing crossword puzzles, singing and playing the piano, and encouraged many people with her wonderful letter writing.  She enjoyed time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, attending their many activities over the years.

Her children have been blessed by her good example in serving others through simple acts of kindness.  Her family will miss her wonderful sense of humor and quick wit.  

Survivors include her husband, Herb Weston of Roseau; seven children, Tom (Dianna) Ackerman of Lafayette, CO, Tim (Patty) Ackerman of Green Valley, AZ, Sarah Grindstaff of Excelsior, MN, Stan (Priscilla) Weston of Roseau, MN, Susan Weston of Menomonie, WI, Stuart (Lori) Weston of Roseau, MN and Sheldon (Nan) Weston of Sauk Rapids, MN; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Arnold Boomgaarden of Pingree, ND and a sister, Muriel Gleason of Webster, SD.
