A Funeral Service for Lyla E. Johnson of International Falls, MN will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 11:00AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in International Falls, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Falun Cemetery in Roseau, MN.
Lyla passed away on January 26, 2018 at the age of 88.
Our Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ, has destroyed death and bought life and light through the Gospel. We are deeply thankful for what God has done through His servant, Lyla E. Johnson.
Lyla Elaine Johnson was given earthly life by her creator and was born on September 7, 1929, the child of Edith and Oscar Larson. On February 20, 1952, she and Byron received the gift of Holy Baptism, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in International Falls, MN, and became children of God. On June 9, 1946, Lyla publicly confessed her faith and was confirmed in the Christian faith at the Covenant Church in Malung, MN.
On June 30, 1951, she received the gift of a beloved life companion in Byron, her husband of 66-1/2 years. They were blessed with the gift of four children; Judy (Joe) Lund of Warroad, MN, Jeff (Leigh) Johnson of Prudenville, MI, Daniel Johnson, of Karlstad, MN, and David (Jill) Johnson of Becker, MN.
Lyla blessed everyone who knew her. She humbly served at home, St. Paul’s Lutheran, Rainy River Community College bookstore manager, and in the community. She finished her race January 26, 2018, when the Good Lord called her home to rest in His arms to await the resurrection of the dead. To God be the glory. He has risen, He has risen INDEED!
Lyla is survived by her husband, Byron; her children, seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; brothers Orville and Milo Larson; sisters Norma Thompson, Linda Westeen, and Lorretta Grothe. She was preceded in death by brothers, Eugene, Lester, and Dan; and sister, Fern Hamerl.
