Lloyd was born on June 26, 1920 in Roseau County to Almedia (Anderson) and John Olson. He lived north of Roseau in Spruce Valley, until 1939 when the family moved to Spruce Township.
Lloyd was in the U.S. Army for four years, stationed in San Francisco. He was in Coast Artillery and was discharged in 1945. He enjoyed playing hockey while in the service. He’s been a member of the American Legion for 71 years.
He married Eva (Karlsson) on April 19, 1947. They had three children: Lyle, Linda and Robert. They made their home in Roseau where Lloyd worked at O.K. Machine Company as a mechanic. He was there for 37 years and retired on June 28, 1985.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching various sports on TV, mostly hockey and baseball. He loved watching his grandsons’ hockey games whenever he had the chance. He and Eva were members of the First Lutheran Church where he served on the church council for many years.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Eva; children: Lyle (Chris) Olson of Deerwood, MN, Linda (Lee) Moyer of Coon Rapids, MN, and Robert Olson of Roseau; grandchildren: John Olson of Westminster, CO, Brian Olson of St. Paul, MN, Fred (Kristy) Moyer of Andover, MN, and Matt (Tiffany) Moyer of Andover, MN; and great-grandchildren: Victor, Ava, and Landon. He is also survived by his sisters: Evelyn Dewing of Salem, OR, Gladys Markstrom of Warroad, MN, Alice Saxberg of Fresno, CA, and Vivian Markstrom of Thief River Falls, MN; sister-in-law Inez Olson of Duluth, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Lester, Lornie, and infant brother Selmer; brothers-in-law Leonard Markstrom, Marvin Markstrom, Willard Dewing, Elvin Saxberg; and sister-in-law Lorraine Olson.
A Funeral Service for Lloyd W. Olson of Roseau, MN will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 11:00AM a First United Lutheran Church in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 28, 2015 from 5-7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN with a prayer service at 7:00PM. Military rites by the Roseau Memorial Honor Guard. Interment will be held at Spruce Cemetery in Roseau, MN.
Lloyd passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at LifeCare Roseau Manor at the age of 95. He is survived by his wife, Eva and their children.
