A Memorial Service for Leland E. Dahlquist of Roseau, MN will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 2:00PM at the Roseau City Center in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 5-7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN with a prayer service at 7PM. Interment will be held at a later date.
Leland Earl Dahlquist passed away February 24, 2018, at the age of 90. He was born June 26, 1927, to Albert and Janette Dahlquist on their homestead in Golden Valley Township. He attended a one-room schoolhouse through 8th grade and received his GED in 1970.
Leland was united in marriage to Marilyn June Larson on June 4, 1952. They lived on the family farm until 1957, when they moved to the Iron Range. Leland took a job with Erie Mining Company. They also owned the first Polaris dealership in the area, Dahlquist Polaris Sales and Service.
In 1969, Leland accepted a job with Polaris as service manager and they moved back to Roseau County. He worked for Polaris until 1993, when he retired.
Leland was a man of strong faith. He loved the Lord, his family and his friends. He never knew a stranger – he loved talking to everybody. He was always busy with his many interests and hobbies. They included blueberry picking, farming, hunting, fishing, trapping, traveling, working with diamond willow and going to auction sales. He raced snowmobiles in the 60’s and had spent the past few years cheering his great-granddaughter, Unity, on at her races.
Leland and Marilyn spent ten years wintering in Arizona. They enjoyed hiking, jeeping and fellowship with their friends.
Leland is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marilyn; five daughters, Gwen (Bob) Sorenson, Julie (Randy) Wahlstrom, Colleen (fiancé Randy Holmberg), Sonia (Roger) Berg, Beth (Mike) McManus; fifteen grandchildren, Jayson Tveit, Tyler (Lynn) Tveit, Tricia (Eric) Gausen, Sheldon Olson, Katie Olson, Kristie (John) North, Andy (Brittany) Hart, Tony (Katie) Hart, Jen (David) Norquist, Rick (Jessica) Berg, David (Christine) Berg, Megan (Rusty) Berg, Samantha and Tanner McManus, and Natalie Holmberg; 22 great-grandchildren, Max, Unity, Ryzen, Raegan, Makenna, Jaxon, Oakley, Aven, Beckett, Billye, Connor, Danika, Ella, Farrah, Blaize, Tyler, Griffin, Damian, Natalie, Hailey, Christian and Callie.
He is also survived by his sister, Rosella Knochenmus, sisters-in-law Bernice Dahlquist and Audrine (Lowell) Rost; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Leland was preceded in death by his parents, brother Adolph, sisters Amy, Eunice and four son-in-laws.
