Julia James

    Julia passed away, after a long and courageous battle with congestive heart failure, and other complications.  She went peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by a loving family, after a lengthy stay at the hospital.

    Norma 'Julia' (Johnson) James was born February 6th, 1926, in Graceton, Minnesota, to Henry and Lempi (Tontti) Johnson.

    Facing the Depression, she went to work at the young age of 14, after losing her mother at 12 years old.  She went to work as a waitress at Agnes Café where she first met Vernon.  She worked as a waitress for a few years in Baudette and Bemidji.

    Julia married Vernon James on July 4, 1948, and they had six children.

    Julia was a mother and homemaker until 1958, when she returned to work. She also helped work their farms. She was a clerk for the family auction business for many years.  Julia loved gardening, flowers, and hummingbirds.  She made wonderful desserts and bread.  Her Morning Glories were her favorites.  Julia was a bartender at the Municipal Liquor Store and the VFW for many years. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

        Julia enjoyed playing cards, dancing, music, camping, fishing, hunting and family get togethers.

    She loved her family.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings(Viola, Aune, Melvin, Wilho, Lucille, George, Laila, Hilia and Laura), and many in laws.

    Julia is survived by: sister-in-laws Mavis Johnson(Wilho), Betty Ellis(Pat), and Ginny Pascoe(Chet).  Children: Donna Serra(Mike), Jo Mulholland(Brian), Doyle James(Barbara), Paulette Daley(Don), Sue Noble(Charles) and Sandra Smith(Robert). Grandchildren: Dennis Serra(Kathy), Derek Serra(Denise), Dawn Tatosian(Brandon), Gregory Newland(Shannon), Douglas Newland, Kristine Mulholland, Jessie Jackson(Joel), Aaron James, Kari MaDoll(Dustin), Corey James(Vilma), Jamie (Micah) James, John Daley, Brian Daley(Megan),  Christopher Smith(Nikki) and( Tina Wenger(Cory).  Great Grandchildren: Michael Serra, Alec Serra, Kody Parks, Noah Parks, Clover Tatosian, Willow Tatosian, Ivy Tatosian, Rebecca Newland, Brandon Newland, Riley Newland, Kelsey Miller, Adam Jackson, Emma-Jean Jackson, Lucas MaDoll, Autumn Daley, Brian Daley, Maddox Daley, Matthew Daley, Brooklyn Daley, Juliana Wenger and Oliver Smith. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service for Julia James of Baudette, MN will be held on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 2:00PM at First Lutheran Chruch in Baudette. Visitation will be held on one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at Elm Park Cemetery in Baudette, MN.

Julia James passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at LakeWood Helath Center in Baudette, MN at the age of 89.
