Jennie Gladys Skogstad Elton, 98, passed away with her family at her side on Thursday, November 19th in St. Luke’s Hospital, Duluth, MN after a very short illness.

Jennie was born January 21st, 1917 in Piney, Manitoba to Sievert and Mary (Thompson) Skogstad, obtaining her U.S. Naturalization papers in 1943.

On October 17th, 1942 in Pinecreek, Jennie was united in marriage with the love of her life, Melvin Sigward Elton.

Jennie and Melvin farmed in the Pinecreek community. Melvin passed away in January, 1964. With the help of her son, Marlin, Jennie retained their dairy and small grain farm, working hard as she did all of her life.  Jennie was an integral part of the Pinecreek Lutheran Church and a member of the Pinecreek Church Ladies Aide.  Jennie’s favorite things were planting her garden and loving and caring for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

At the age of 90, Jennie moved from the farm into the North Star Housing where she found many lovely friends, new and old.  In the fall of 2014, she moved to the home of her daughter Jean and son-in-law Larry, where she lived until her death.

Jennie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, granddaughter Jennifer Elton, brothers Willie Skogstad, Arthur Skogstad, and sister Selma Boroos.  Jennie is survived by her son Marlin and daughter in law Suzie (Lange) Elton, her daughter Jean Elton Turbes and son in law Larry Turbes.  Jennie’s beloved grandchildren are Tami (Kirby) Dahlquist, Heather Elton, Mark (Kelly) Elton, Jennifer Elton (Jeff Brand) Turbes and Joshua Elton (Laurelyn) Turbes.  Great grandchildren Beth, Evan and Alissa Dahlquist, Avril Ameli and Elsa Elton. Jennie is also survived by many loved nieces, nephews and friends.

A special thank you to the St. Luke’s ED and 7W staff for the compassionate care they gave Mom on the day of her death.  Also, the Touching Hearts home care staff that provided such lovely company and care at our home.

.  In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the Pinecreek Lutheran Church.
