Inpong Douangmala

Funeral services for Inpong Douangmala of Warroad, MN will be held on Saturday, May 14th  at 1 PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau.  A visitation will be one hour prior at Helgeson's.  Interment will be at a later date at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Inpong passed away on May 6, 2016 at the age of 64.

Mr. Inpong (“Pong”) Douangmala, resident of Warroad, MN, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016, at the age of 64.

Mr. Inpong Douangmala was born on April 15, 1952 in Savannakhet, Laos.  He graduated from the teacher’s college in Vientiane, Laos with a degree in Education.  In 1979, he married Sangvane Rattanapaitoon, and they were blessed with two children, Heidi and Danny.  

In 1980, due to the Vietnam War, he and his wife fled the war torn country and built a new life in Frazee, MN.  In Frazee, he worked as a part of the truck shop crew at Daggett Truck Line, and helped fix the truck trailers.  After building their family, they moved to Warroad, MN in 1990, and began a career at Marvin Windows as a machine operator where Inpong worked for more than 27 years.

Inpong had a great love for the outdoors, and spent much of his time fishing and hunting.  He enjoyed watching professional wrestling with his son and grandson.  He was often seen sitting peacefully near the window, watching cars and people go by, and enjoying his cigarette.

He was a great family man, a loving father, and a dedicated grandfather.  He found much joy in being involved in his children and grandchildren’s lives.  He fully enjoyed precious time with his grandson, friends, and family.  He will be remembered as a kind, loving, ambitious, quiet, and humble person.  He will be sorely missed by his abundant family, friends, and coworkers.

Mr. Douangmala is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sangvane Douangmala, of Warroad, MN; his daughter, Heidi (Douangmala) Keophimane, of Elk Grove, CA; his son, Danny Douangmala, of Warroad, MN; and his grandson, Kato Douangmala, of Warroad, MN. He is also survived by his two brothers, Kho and Kong; along with two sisters, Vongsinh and Viengkham; He is preceded in death by his Father, Douang Douangmala, and Mother, Chomsee Douangmala; two sisters, Khaen and Khao; and two brothers, Khieng and Thong.
