There will be a MEMORIAL SERVICE On Friday. May 5, 2017 at 2 PM, at the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, in Baudette, and burial at Elm Park Cemetery for Helene Forney of Silver Bay, MN. Formally of Baudette. Helene passed away at Lake View Memorial Hospital in Two Harbors, MN. on December 22, 2016 at the age of 99.
Helene was born on June 12, 1917 in Burlington, Iowa. She moved to Baudette with her parents, Louise and Fern Joles, when she was a young girl. Helene married Joe Forney in Baudette on Nov. 1, 1937. Together they raised four daughters.
Helene stayed at home until her children were in high school then worked at the Nursing Home in East Baudette for a few years before going to work for Rowell’s Laboratory. She retired from Rowell’s at the age of 70. She enjoyed traveling with Joe. As they visited both the East and west coast; plus a trip to Europe while her daughter and son-in-law were there. She also enjoyed reading and doing her word puzzles. And especially spending time with her daughters and families. The past six years she has lived with her daughter, Jolene and Roger Koster in Silver Bay, Minnesota from June to January, and January to June with daughter Kathy and Ernie Sikes in Lake Wales Florida. With a week here and there with Sherry and Jim and Maralee and Dave.
Helene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joe, Her in-laws Frank and Mable Forney, two sisters, two brothers, and five brothers-in-law.
Helene is survived by her children, Sharon (Jim) Furey, Big Fork, MN. Kathryn (Ernie) Sikes, Lake Wales, FL., Jolene (Roger) Koster, Silver Bay, MN. Maralee (Dave) Rivard, Crossville, TN. She is also survived by six grandchildren Mike (Connie) Furey, Joe (Jessica) Furey, Sandy Greene, Jeff Greene, Jennifer Koster, Sean (Angela) Koster, Kristie (Marc) Bartels, and Kelly (Mick) Donnelly. 22 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother in-law Roy Forney, St. Cloud, and two sisters in-law Onata Harter and LaVonne Wuertz in California, and several nieces.
