A Funeral Service for Helen C. Mickelson of Salol, MN will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 10:30AM at First Lutheran Church in Salol, MN. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 3, 2016 from 5-7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN with a prayer service at 7:00, and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at Spruce Cemetery.
Helen passed away on Friday, May 27, 2016 at LifeCare Roseau Manor at the age of 80.
Helen C. Mickelson was born on September 28, 1935 to Carl and Theoline (Thompson) Erikson in Roseau, MN. Helen was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. She grew up in Roseau and graduated from Roseau high school. On October 9, 1953 Helen married Carold Mickelson in Roseau, MN and the couple moved to their farm in Salol. Helen resided at the farm for the reminder of her life.
Helen worked various jobs during her lifetime including with Polaris Industries and Marvin Windows and Doors. She also milked cows on the farm and helped out with the haying. Helen enjoyed fishing, sewing, playing cards, quilting, going for rides, and visiting with family and friends. She always liked to “swing by”, whether it was ten minutes or two hours out of the way she just “swung by” to see you. Helen also loved to camp and would go to Graceton Beach every summer. She just loved spending her time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Helen was involved in the Salol Homemakers Club. She was also a member of First Lutheran Church in Salol, MN, a Sunday school teacher and part of the ladies aid.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Carold; son, Clement; daughter in-law , Desiree; sisters, Norma (Carl) Anderson, Doris (Hilbert) Hanson, Della (Cecil) Johnson; and her parents.
She is survived by her children, Brenda (Layton) Wahl of Williams, MN, Daniel Mickelson of Dilworth, MN and Daryl Mickelson of Salol, MN; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five step-great grandchildren; sister, Geanen (Jerome) Grefthen.
