George W. Nelson

A Funeral Service for George W. Nelson of Badger, MN will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 2:00PM at Our Redeemers Lutheran Church of Badger, MN. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 2, 2016 from 5-8PM with a prayer service at 7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. Interment will be held at Badger City Cemetery in Badger, MN. Military honors provided by the Roseau Memorial Honor Guard.

George passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the age of 80.

George W. Nelson was born on July 19 1936 to Obert and Laura (Linert) Nelson in Stokes Township. He graduated from Badger high school in 1955. After high school George entered the United States Army and served in the motor pool in Germany during the occupation of WWII. When he returned to Badger he ran the Texaco Station until his employment at Borgen Implement in 1960; there he worked as a mechanic for 30+ years until his retirement. George married Lila Sjodin on June 11, 1961. George was a faithful member of Our Redeemers Lutheran Church in Badger, MN. He was the Sunday school super intendant as well as the head usher for many years. He was also a member of the VFW Post 3832 where he was the quartermaster and commander. He was on the Badger Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years and served as chief of the department for a period of time. George was also a member of the Northland Thrashing Association.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert, Leland, Joseph, Infant brother, Christopher.

George is survived by his wife, Lila; son, Bruce (Shelly) Nelson; daughters, Laura Nelson, Lexi Nelson; son, Brian Nelson (Mary Solberg); daughters, Kristina (Greg) Schoenborn, Andrea Nelson, Sam Nelson, Tiffinee (Kyle) Swanson; great-grandchildren, Grant, Alexa, Ava.
