George Jerry Jirmasek was born on April 28, 1930 to Jerry and Rose (Medek) Jirmasek in Falun Township on the homestead where he lived his entire life.  He passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 86 on Saturday, August 27th, 2016. George attended grade school at Falun District 36E, through the 8th grade. He was pulled out of school to help out on the family farm. George served our country in the United States Army from 1954 – 1956.

After returning from his service George worked numerous jobs. He worked as a telephone lineman; he worked for Fredrickson John Deere and also farmed. George spent many winters cutting pulp in the Beltrami Forest with many of his friends and neighbors. George farmed small grains and raised beef cattle.  He married Lois (Monkman) on November 27, 1974. George retired when he was 62; that’s when he quit grain farming. He was always busy and constantly made himself lists of things that needed to get done. He enjoyed hunting and gardening. George had a green thumb and could grow anything. He loved the challenge of trying to find new plants to grow. George purposefully overplanted his garden every year; he loved to supply his family, friends and neighbors with all of the fresh vegetables from his garden. He also planted his own grapes for making wine and had his own little fruit farm. Everyone knew that the coffee pot was always on and there were fresh chocolate chip cookies waiting on the table for them. Family was very important to George; he always had your back and was willing to help out whoever he could at the drop of a hat. George was very proud of his family and their accomplishments.

He was a member of the Roseau American Legion and also the Falun Cemetery board. George was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Rose Jirmasek; son, Darcy Johnson; sisters; Mildred Johnson, Frances Grindstuen, Bessie Nyland, Infant sister, Marie; father and mother in-law, Lawrence and Lenore Monkman.

George is survived by his loving wife, Lois of 41 years; children, Kelly (Jeremy) Hulst of Roseau, Kevin (Marie) Johnson of Salol, Tammy (Frank) Sindelir of Baudette, Mitchum (Denise) Johnson of Thief River Falls; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Hulst, Jace Hulst, Jeron Hulst all of Roseau, Connie (Brian) Levin of Bemidji, Kyle Krahn of Honduras; great-grandchildren, Brayden Levin, Hudson Levin, Zander Levin; brother, Milan Jirmasek of Salol as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
