Gary L. Dahlgren

A Funeral Service for Gary L. Dahlgren of Williams, MN will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 10:00AM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 18, 2017 from 5-7PM with a prayer service at 7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. Interment will be held at Malung Cemetery.

Gary passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at the age of 75.

Gary LeRoy Dahlgren passed away surrounded by family on December 14 after a seven-month battle with cancer.

Gary was born on February 12, 1942, in Roseau, MN, to Oliver and Ruby (Norquist) Dahlgren. He grew up in the Falun township, where he was the second of eight children.

After high school, he served 2 years in the army and 6 years in the Reserves. He was discharged from the Army in January 1963. On May 30, 1963, he married Gloria (Wolff). They lived in LaCrescent, MN, and had 5 children: Leonard, Lyle, Larry, Louise, and Leslie.

Gary attended Merc Cruise Vocational School for outboard motors and then worked for Skipper Buds Marina for 10 years, working his way up to service manager. Then he moved to Falun township where he built a new home for his family. Throughout the years, he also worked for Dorwart Motors, the Roseau School bus garage, and D & E Sport Shop for 30 years.

Gary loved the outdoors—hunting, fishing, trapping, and snowmobiling. He dreamed of having a place by the lake, so he bought a cabin on Lake of the Woods. He eventually built his dream home at Birch Beach where he and Gloria retired and enjoyed living for the past 15 years.

Gary never sat still. Even after retirement, he worked for different farmers in the Williams area. He also worked for the Williams Elevator. He was a jack of all trades and was known to be one of the best blueberry pickers in the area.

Gary was loved by everyone. He had friends everywhere and was willing to help anyone who needed it. He never expected anything for helping because he just enjoyed being busy and helping others.

 Gary is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gloria; their five children: Leonard (Joann) from Warroad; Lyle (Karen) from Falun township; Larry (Lynnea) from International Falls; Louise Boroos (Dale) from Roseau; and Leslie (Becky) from Roseau. Siblings: Myrna Pike (Roger), Donald Dahlgren (Judith), Beverly Bear (Jerry), Barbara Stach (Emil), and Mavis Leathes (Sam).

 Gary is the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren: Shannel, Colt, Kody, Morgan, Presley, Kenai, Sarah, Brooke, Alex, Maisy, Scott, Ryan, Tennille; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents (Oliver and Ruby) and 2 brothers (John and Richard).
