Etta Marie Mooney of Thief River Falls, MN passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on August 15, 2016 at the LifeCare Greenbush Manor at the age of 89.

Etta was born in Nereson Township of Roseau County on April 12, 1927 to Elizabeth (Brotherston) and Jonas Didrikson.  She grew up in Badger, MN and graduated from Badger High School in 1945.  She graduated from Bemidji State College with a degree in Elementary Education.  That started a life-long passion for learning and teaching others.  She and Clifford Hontvet were married on April 5, 1947 and had four children.  While raising her children, she taught school in Lancaster, Haug-Leo, Wannaska, Badger and Warroad.

After Clifford’s death in 1966, she later married Iver Allan Linder of Warroad, MN in 1970.  Together, they built homes in Warroad and McAllen, TX and enjoyed traveling.  After Allan's death, she and Edward Mooney were married on October 24, 1997 and built a home in Thief River Falls.  They enjoyed traveling, dancing, were active in all 8 kids’ and grandkids’ lives and in their community. She spent her last year and a half at the LifeCare Greenbush Manor staying as active as she was able.  Etta handled the many tragedies in her life with an abiding faith in God and a fierce determination.

Etta will be remembered for living a full and active life.  She loved reading, visiting with people, homemaking, teaching and gardening…all while enjoying it.  She was outgoing, an intense perfectionist, but optimistic and encouraging to everyone.  Her faith, family and heritage played a big role during her lifetime.  Her legacy will continue to live on in her children, grandchildren and former students.

She is survived by husband, Ed Mooney of Thief River Falls, MN; children, Conrad (Karen) Hontvet of Warroad, Karen Eeg of Fergus Falls, MN, Carter (Becky) Hontvet of Warroad, Diane Meyer of Moorhead, MN; grandchildren, Jenny, Chris, Chad, Garner, Anissa, Justin, Stuart, Carmen, Coreen, Bryan & Bethany; many great-grandchildren; twin sister, Eva Gregerson; in-laws, Ronald Bina, Dorothy Didrikson and Harold Grotte; and Ed’s three surviving children, Ron, Ken and Terri and extended family.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Clifford Hontvet and Allan Linder; son-in-law, Barry Eeg; grandson, Barrett Lee Hontvet; siblings, Jessie Belgum, Marvin Didrikson, Severt Didrikson, George Didrikson, Dorothy Grotte and JoAnn Bina; Ed’s son, Edward “Buzz” Mooney.
