Elmer H. Haugen

July 16, 1927 ~ December 15, 2014 (age 87) 87 Years Old

A funeral service for Elmer Haugen of Badger will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau at 11:00 a.m.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service.  Military Rites will be provided by the Roseau Memorial Honor Guard.  Interment is at the Badger City Cemetery.

Elmer Howard Haugen was born in Moose Township on July 16, 1927 to Emma (Nelson) and Harry Haugen.  He attended a country school near their homestead through the eighth grade until he was needed on the family farm.

Elmer served in the United States Army.  He enlisted in Fargo, ND on February 10, 1951 and was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas.  He was in the 10th Infantry Division.

Elmer farmed nearly all of his life.  He loved it.  He also sheered sheep and drove school bus for 35 years.  He didn’t have any children of his own so he enjoyed driving the bus and being with the kids.  He enjoyed spending time with his great-nephews, taking them for drives in the country to look at crops and wild life.  He especially enjoyed having them ride in the combine and tractors with him so he could share his knowledge of farming with them.

He was a “Jack of all Trades,” they say.  He could fix anything and he liked tinkering on things that were in need of repair.  He and his brothers restored several John Deere tractors over the years and also a D-7 Caterpillar.

Elmer also enjoyed fishing in the Roseau River for Walleyes and Northern Pike.

Elmer Haugen passed away peacefully on December 15 at LifeCare Manor in Roseau.  He was 87 years old.

He is survived by his sister, Ella Mork of Petersburg, ND; brother Floyd (Ruby) Haugen of Badger; nieces and nephews; Minda (Elliot) Sadlowski of Moorhead, MN, Brent Haugen of Badger, Gary (Maureen) Mork of Petersburg, ND, and Sharon (Craig) Lindemann of Enderlin, ND.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jalmer Haugen, niece, Joanne Meisner, and brother-in-law, Sam Mork.
