Eleanor Ringling

Eleanor (Sandy) Ringling, Nay-tah-wash-shik, was born on January 3, 1937 in Kenora, Ontario to Fred and Alice (Katchekonias) Sandy. She was raised at Northwest Angle Band #33 and attended Cecilia Jeffrey residential school in Kenora, Ontario.

After school Eleanor helped her parents raise their large family. She helped her father with logging by training the horses to follow her commands. She earned the nickname "Shortcut" when working at Frolander's Resort as a housekeeper. She married Vance Ringling on January 23, 1965 in Williams, MN. Eleanor was a homemaker and worked at Sandy's Monument Bay Resort and the Warroad Care Center as a housekeeper.

Eleanor enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing games, visiting friends and family, bingo, and going to casinos where she made several friends. She will be remembered as a loving; mother, grandmother, auntie, sister, friend, and an excellent bannock maker. Eleanor was talented at moccasin making, sewing, crocheting, beadwork and making regalia. Her big smile that was always filled with laughter, along with her kindness and generosity, will be sadly missed by all.

Eleanor passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2015 in Fargo at the age of 78.  Eleanor is survived by sons; Vance (Patsy) Ringling of Winnipeg, MB, Hugh Ringling of Warroad, and daughter Melanie (Harry) Shepard of Warroad; sisters, Elsie and Elizabeth; brothers, Leslie and Kenny; grandchildren, Aaron, Bryanna, Tiara, Andy, Elliott, Alyssa, Skyler, Hayden, and Evyn; step-grandchildren, Beth, Bobby, Liza and Garth; great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Jayna, Ava, Isabella, Kingston, and Daycen; step-great-grandchild, Denton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Vance in 1986; siblings, Stanley, Winnie, Edna, Maude, Frank, and Ron.

Funeral services will be held on 2 PM Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the Warroad Baptist Church.
