Edwin A. Kristofferson

April 30, 1926 ~ March 18, 2015 (age 88) 88 Years Old


Funeral services for Ed Kristofferson of Salol, MN will be held on Monday, March 23rd at 11 AM at First Lutheran Church in Salol.  Visitation will be on Sunday evening from 5-7 PM with a 7:00 prayer service at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau.  Interment will be at the Spruce Cemtery in Roseau.  Military honors by the Roseau Memorial Honor Guard.

Edwin Alexander Kristofferson was born on April 30, 1926 in Salol, MN to Nels Olaf Kristofferson and Amanda C. (Angman).  He attended school in Salol through the 8th grade.  Ed’s first job was at Farmers Union Oil Co. in Roseau.  In 1944, at the age of 18, he was drafted to serve his country in World War II.  He received his honorable discharge in 1946.  He worked for various construction companies in southern Minnesota.  Edwin and Marianne (Olson) were married on September 16, 1950 in Salol, MN.  In 1957, they purchased the Corner Grocery Store in Salol from his brother, Erick.  Marianne operated the grocery store and Ed went to work for Jack Grahn running the dragline.  Ed retired at the age of 62. 

 

Ed enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  He especially enjoyed deer hunting with his son-in-law and grandsons.  He enjoyed ice fishing and summer fishing, working in the yard and garden.  Edwin was an active member of the Salol First Lutheran Church, serving on the church council for many years.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marianne of Salol; daughter, Linda Emery (favorite son-in-law, Bob Emery); sister Norma Hall of Minneapolis, MN; 3 loving grandchildren, Steven (Linda) Emery of East Grand Forks, MN, Michelle (Todd) Thomson of West Fargo, ND and Chad (Heidi) Emery of Roseau, MN; 7 great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Emery, Kendra Emery, Abby Thomson, Blake Cardinal, Courtney Thomson, Roger Fuller, Hunter Emery and special puppy, Oscar; and many nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Erick, Gustav and Thorsten; sister, Edith Swanson; grandson, Michael Emery; great-granddaughter, Olivia Emery; and special nieces, Karen Hall and Donna Ellenson.
