Edward D. Erickson

A Memorial Service for Edward Erickson of Sprague, Manitoba will be held on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 2:00PM at the Sprague Town Hall in Sprague, Manitoba. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2016 from 5-7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN with a prayer service at 7:00.

Edward passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND at the age of 64.

Edward D. Erickson was born August 15, 1951 to Joseph and Alice (Kershaw) Erickson in Warroad, MN. He spent his childhood north of Sprague, Manitoba in Golden Branch and attended school there before moving into Sprague where he would graduate in 1969.

On April 5th 1980 Edward married Loretta Flaten in Ross, MN at Concordia Lutheran Church. The couple moved to Sprague, Manitoba. Ed worked various jobs throughout his life, however he primarily operated heavy machinery in building roads in Northern Canada. He also served on the Sprague school board for several years. Ed enjoyed everything about the outdoors.  He liked hunting, going to the camp, four wheeling, mowing grass, and having a cold beer with good company. He was an avid reader and a very intelligent man. He loved to share his knowledge with his granddaughters, Piper and Charlotte who are the pride and joy of his life. Ed was also a very gentle and caring person, he was always willing to help out others whenever he could.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alice “Nan”; brother, Jack; sisters, Leona and Doris; three infant siblings.

He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Loretta; children, Lindsey Erickson, David (Joclyn) Erickson; granddaughters, Piper and Charlotte; his boys Eddy and Philip; siblings, Hannah Halwachs, Bill Erickson, Ida Erickson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made to start and education fund for Piper and Charlotte.
